Since opening in August 2024, BC Academy International School - Dubai, has seen great interest from our Dubai community. As such, we are expanding our Secondary School provision as we grow into KS3. We are looking for highly skilled and motivated subject specialists who can lead Teaching & Learning to initially set up KS3 for AY 24/25, and KS4-5 in the near future.

The Role 

BC Academy International School is seeking a dynamic and passionate Secondary English Teacher with a specialization in literacy for KS3, with the vision to expand into KS4 and KS5 in the near future. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering a high-quality British curriculum in a nurturing and innovative environment.

Applicants must be native English speakers and have at least 3-5 years experience working in a British Curriculum school. This role is suitable for a current Head or Deputy Head of Department, or even an aspiring middle leader.

This role is not suitable for NQT/ECT teachers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered English lessons aligned with the National Curriculum for England.
  • Lead and implement literacy-focused initiatives to improve students' reading, writing, and communication skills across the curriculum.
  • Foster creativity, critical thinking, and a love for literature and language through innovative teaching methods.
  • Use formative and summative assessments effectively to monitor and track student progress and provide targeted support.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of schemes of work and resources for KS3, with preparation for KS4 and KS5.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular literacy strategies.
  • Participate actively in whole-school activities, enrichment programs, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain high expectations for behavior, engagement, and academic achievement.
  • Ensure alignment with inspection and accreditation criteria from entities such as the UAE Ministry of Education and British Schools Overseas (BSO).


Essential Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field; a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification with QTS.
  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in a British curriculum school, with demonstrated success in delivering excellent literacy outcomes.
  • Native English speaker with exceptional communication skills.
  • Proven expertise in literacy development, including intervention strategies for students with varying needs.
  • Familiarity with the British National Curriculum (KS3-KS5), including assessment frameworks and inspection standards.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to design and lead literacy initiatives.
  • Experience in using technology and innovative pedagogies to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Ability to differentiate lessons to meet the diverse needs of learners.


Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in a leadership role such as Head or Deputy Head of Department.
  • A Master’s degree in Education or English-related disciplines.
  • Previous experience in establishing or developing new phases of education (e.g., setting up KS3 or KS4 in a school).
  • Knowledge of inspection frameworks such as BSO, KHDA, or Ofsted, with experience preparing for school inspections.
  • Additional qualifications or certifications in literacy, EAL/ESL teaching, or educational technology.
  • Multilingual abilities or experience teaching in an international, multicultural context.
