We are looking for a Chair of Governors (volunteering role)


GOSH school has sites both at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and University College Hospital, providing an excellent education to 2-19 year olds.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference for our children and be part of our continuing journey.

Join our dedicated governing board and make a lasting impact on our hospital school. As Chair, you will lead, inspire, and guide our team to provide exceptional education and support to children with medical needs.

 Responsibilities:

 * Oversee board meetings and decision-making

* Ensure effective governance and accountability

* Support the headteacher and senior leadership team, being a ‘critical friend’

* Represent the school in the wider community

 Skills/ Attributes needed:

 Candidates should be able to demonstrate a good selection of the skills/attributes set out below: 

 * Strong commitment to the school’s ethos and principles

* Strong desire to improve the educational outcomes for children with medical needs

* Strong commitment to Equity

* Commitment to time

* Good understanding of the environment in which the school is operating and wider education policy 

* Understanding of the challenges faced by children with medical needs

* Personal integrity 

* Negotiation and diplomacy skills 

* Good understanding of the legal responsibilities of the Governing Body

* Strong communication skills 

* Good organisational skills 

* Ability to think strategically 

* Ability to prioritise 

* Ability to chair meetings well 

* Ability to have difficult conversations and make challenging decisions 

* Ability to build and get the best out of a team 

* Capacity to process information quickly and understand relevant data 

* Ability to delegate 

 Experience needed/desired:

The ideal candidate will have:

 * Experience of chairing meetings (not necessarily as school governor)

* Successfully led a team

* Experience of the education/health sectors

* Experience of effective public relations

About Children's Hospital School at Great Ormond Street and UCH

At the Children's Hospital School at GOSH & UCH we aim to provide an enriching and enjoyable experience for all our pupils, which ensures normality through education and helps to prevent anxiety about school. Where appropriate, we will provide continuity of education within the framework of the National Curriculum.  Education and play are a key part of each child's medical treatment.

We are a close-knit, dedicated and supportive team of about 40 staff who are proud to work together in this unique setting, providing personalised education to children in a schoolroom setting or on the wards.
