About the Role

The Inclusion Assistant (Classroom Support Assistant) is a member of the Inclusion Team. An Inclusion Assistant plays a key role in supporting classroom teachers to ensure that all students with diverse learning needs can access and participate the curriculum and activities in order to achieve the academic goals and social skills required for independent learning and confident participation.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Classroom Support Assistant include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting students with challenging and complex and challenging needs on a 1:1 basis in the classroom.
  • Providing targeted support inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Working on differentiated activities with groups of students.
  • Working closely with Classroom Teacher, Inclusion Teacher, Inclusion Coordinator and other Inclusion Assistants (Classroom Support Assistants).
  • Supporting students with programs that support their social and emotional skills.
  • Writing notes and observations on students with Personalised Plans.
  • Understanding of individual student goals and how to support students with these in the classroom

Qualifications

  • A Certificate IV in Classroom Support or other relevant qualification (or be currently studying)
  • Must hold a relevant Working with Vulnerable People registration

Essential Criteria

It is essential that the successful applicant have:

  1. Effective written and oral communication skills.
  2. Effective ICT skills.
  3. The ability to effectively interact with students with learning needs, and liaise with parents, teachers and community members and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
  4. Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to contribute to a professional team.
  5. Provide advice and evaluation in the development of the educational programs, including classroom support and therapy programs where they have been implemented.
  6. Knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students.
  7. Effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers.
  8. Ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students.

Other Eligibility Criteria

  • You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident to be eligible to apply for this position.
  • Appointment is subject to satisfactory employment screening for child-related employment in accordance with CECG policy.
