Job overview

Sha Tin College is seeking to appoint a Deputy Head of Learning Support Faculty starting Aug 2025 to manage the education and provision of our learning diversity students. Suitable candidates should hold a qualification in the field of inclusion, have experience in behaviour management, developing learning support curriculums and access arrangements and have worked in a secondary school.

In partnership and in consultation with the Head of Faculty, the Deputy Head of Faculty will focus on aspects of the areas below at any one time. 


Responsibilities

Teaching, Learning & Curriculum:

  • Teach Learning Support classes across all age ranges. However, experience in teaching/supporting the IGCSE curriculum and IB is advantageous
  • Support students in mainstream classes through intervention, consultation with teachers, and in-class support
  • Monitor and track the progress of students on the Learning Support register from Years 10 – 13
  • Collaborate with the Guidance & Wellbeing team to support Learning Support students in Years 10 – 13
  • Provide guidance to staff, parents and students for designated Years 10-13 and above students
  • Develop and extend curriculum choices and pathways for students in Learning Support from Years 10 – 13
  • Plan and facilitate transition activities for Years 11 & 13
  • Work closely with the HOF, careers team/IB coordinator to ensure the needs of the students are known, and ESF career placements occur for students in Years 10 – 13
  • Teach workshops to staff on areas of inclusion and differentiation
  • Work with the ESF Student Support Services Careers Team to source appropriate work placements where appropriate 

Leading The Faculty Team: 

  • Lead curriculum development for Years 10-13 students
  • Advise Learning Support teachers in the delivery of new courses
  • Collaborate with the Head of Faculty to manage Educational Assistants, Educational Psychologist provision and order resources
  • Attend ESF Learning Diversity Network meetings
  • Liaise with the Admissions team regarding support needs of incoming students in Years 10 - 13

Management & Administration:

  • Maintain open communication with parents regarding student progress
  • Work with the Head of Faculty to maintain online registers and records
  • Attend and contribute to weekly educational assistant meetings
  • Ensure referrals from staff are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner to ensure effective assessment and intervention in Years 10 - 13
  • Ensure that the learning environment and display areas in the Faculty are well-maintained
  • PRD management of some members of Learning Support teachers and Teaching Assistants in line with conversations with the Head of Faculty


Requirements

The successful applicant is expected to have the following skills, abilities, knowledge and experience.

General Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or
  • Bachelor’s Degree, as well as a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
  • Previous experience in teaching the IB DP, IGCSE, IB MYP, etc. is highly desirable

Personal Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience in teaching literacy and numeracy to students with specific needs
  • Ability to deputize for the Head of Faculty where appropriate
  • An ability to lead a team of colleagues and a dedicated team player
  • Excellent negotiation, collaboration and problem-solving skills with a solution-focused attitude
  • Commitment to supporting and developing a holistic approach to student development and well-being
  • Ability to analyse specialist data to disseminate to staff and teachers
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and timely follow-up
  • Excellent team player
  • Flexibility of approach in line with the changing needs of the cohort
  • Participative leadership approaches
  • Ability to upskill others and contribute to faculty and whole school CPD where appropriate

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience advising on differentiated materials and resources for a team of teachers whose main responsibility is for students on the Learning Support Register
  • A sound practical knowledge of curriculum development
  • Experience in psychometric testing (CPT3A certification is desirable but not essential)
  • Experience in monitoring and tracking student progress to set clear targets for achievement
  • Solid ICT skills
