Job overview
Gateways is an alternative education provision, based in the London Borough of Barnet, that exists to support the countless young people today, between the ages of 14-25, who are or have struggled to remain in mainstream education.
Gateways students are referred to us as school refusers, struggle with severe anxiety, debilitating depression, eating disorders, traumas of all kinds and often as a result of serious medical issues.
The demand for Gateways’ provision is greater than ever. The unprecedented demand for places at Gateways comes from increasing pressure from schools, local authorities, parents and community organisations, to expand the provision. Not only to accommodate more students but also to widen the curriculum for them, expand the pastoral care, offer more mentoring and counselling sessions and extend our relationship with industry, to offer more apprenticeships and work placements too.
To meet the rapidly increasing demand for our provision and our reputation for delivering exceptional outcomes, Gateways has registered as an independent charity and has begun operating with a new strategy and a growing team from September 2023.
In an exciting time for the programme, we are looking to expand our provision and are recruiting an additional freelance English teacher. This post will suit teachers who will take ownership of their subject and are willing to be flexible to meet the needs of the students. Gateways has approximately 50 students on roll and classes are taught 1-1 or 2-1.
If you a qualified English Teacher with a flair for creativity? We're looking for someone who can think outside the box and light up the classroom with their unique approach! If you can adapt your teaching style to meet the diverse needs of our students and aren’t afraid to shake things up when needed, you might just be the perfect fit. Bring your energy and spark to Gateways and help us inspire a love for learning in our students while making every lesson fun and engaging!
