Salary:           Up to £33.760.00 per annum dependent on experience

Hours:           37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday 8.00am - 4.00pm

Contract:       Permanent, term-time only

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for an English with Humanities Teacher to join our close-knit team at Reddish Hall School, part of Acorn Education.

Job Purpose

We have a deeply held conviction that every pupil can achieve and reach their potential, we are looking to appoint an additional English with Humanities Teacher who can continue to inspire and enthuse a love of learning in our students. You will be an excellent classroom practitioner and team player with the ability and resilience to adapt to an extremely fast paced and changeable environment. We believe that all pupils deserve a life of choice and opportunity however they present. You will be ready and willing to use your initiative to successfully navigate behaviours that could be complex and challenging whilst promoting a positive culture of achievement and success.

The purposes of the role are:

  • To plan, deliver and assess programmes of study to pupils aged 11-18 in the fields of English and Humanities
  • To work with the Head of English and the Head of Humanities in designing engaging schemes of work to support pupils with diverse SEMH/SEND
  • To support and motivate a range of pupils to enjoy learning, using creative strategies to differentiate lessons
  • To teach in a range of scenarios as required, either whole-class teaching or some smaller group working as necessary
  • To communicate to an excellent standard, both within our School team and also with external agencies as required such as parents/carers, social care, EHCP teams etc
  • To work alongside our team of support staff, in adherence to our school policies on behaviour and wellbeing
  • To track and report on pupil progress towards nationally-recognised standards on a regular basis
  • To keep up-to-date on the latest information in the fields of English and Humanities education
  • To contribute towards whole-school planning as required
  • To deliver and assess GCSE and the full range of Functional Skills English qualifications (Entry 1 – Level 2)
  • To take part in the wider life of the School, including extra-curricular activities


Requirements

  • PGCE or other equivalent teaching qualification (ECT’s are welcome to apply)
  • Experience of teaching SEND pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviour to a high standard 
  • Some experience of teaching English and/or Humanities curriculum
  • Experience and knowledge of safeguarding
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Experience of planning lessons and creating schemes of work
  • Level 2 in Maths and English
  • ICT literate
  • Excellent communication skills

Reddish Hall School is a co-educational school catering for pupils aged 5-18 with complex educational needs, communication difficulties and challenging behaviour- all of our young people have an Education Health Care Plan. The school accepts pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs, though they may face additional challenges and diagnoses including ADHD, Asperger’s, SpLD, MLD, OCD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Foetal Alcohol Syndrome or a variety of other conditions. Additionally, many of our pupils have serious social issues and very difficult home lives resulting in complex emotional difficulties.

All pupils attending Reddish Hall School have individual needs that have proved too complex to be addressed within a mainstream setting. The school provides effective support and a suitably differentiated curriculum, enabling them to progress and succeed to the best of their ability.
