English for Speakers of Other Languages -

United Lisbon International School is inviting applications for the post of ESOL teacher (ESL timetabled classes, as well as both additional push ins and pull-outs). Experience in teaching second language English students is essential. International teaching experience is desirable, and the candidate must be able to work effectively with students and teachers from a variety of ages and backgrounds. We are looking for someone who will work well within a team, model good ESOL practice and develop supportive relationships with students.  

 

Job description:

  • Design and implement lesson plans that meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques to engage students and promote active learning.
  • Incorporate multimedia and technology resources to enhance learning experiences.
  • Conduct regular assessments to evaluate students' progress and proficiency in English.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their language skills.
  • Prepare and administer tests, quizzes, and assignments.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Manage classroom behavior to ensure a conducive learning atmosphere.
  • Address any challenges or issues that arise in the classroom promptly and effectively.
  • Provide guidance and resources to help students in the other subject areas.
  • Encourage and motivate students to actively participate and practice English outside of the classroom.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and update the ESOL curriculum.
  • Ensure the curriculum aligns with educational standards and student needs.
  • Integrate cultural and contextual content to make lessons relevant and engaging.
  • Stay updated on the latest teaching methods, materials, and technology in ESOL education.
  • Share best practices and collaborate with other educators in all subject areas.


Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred. 
  • Additional TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)or CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is an asset.
  • Minimum three years experience teaching ESOL 
  • Knowledge of current literature, trends, methods and developments in the area of ESOL 
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Proficiency in using technology and educational software.
  • Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for teaching.
