The position: EYFS / KS1 Class Teacher - Summer Term 2025
Responsible to:
The successful candidate will be responsible to the Head of Early Years, Head Teacher and the Board of Management.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Pastoral Care & Classroom Management
- Oversee the pastoral care of children in the class, ensuring their emotional, social, and developmental needs are met.
- Organise and manage the classroom environment, including maintaining accurate registers.
- Supervise children during class activities, break times, and transitions between lessons.
- Ensure children’s behaviour is managed in an appropriate, supportive, and consistent manner that reflects their developmental stage and individual needs.
Teaching & Curriculum Delivery
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons in line with the school’s curriculum.
- Work closely with the Head of Early Years to ensure that teaching strategies are consistent and aligned with school-wide standards.
- Adapt teaching methods and activities to meet the individual needs of all children, ensuring inclusive practice.
- Deliver cross-curricular activities that build a strong foundation for learning and encourage curiosity and creativity.
Development & Assessment
- Regularly monitor and assess children’s development, providing tailored support where needed.
- Track and document progress, providing feedback on each child's development and areas for improvement.
- Write regular, insightful reports in line with the school’s reporting policy, communicating key achievements and areas of focus for individual children.
Communication with Parents & Carers
- Foster positive relationships with parents and carers through regular communication regarding their child’s progress, wellbeing, and development.
- Lead the “Meet the Teacher” meeting and attend relevant parents' evenings as required.
- Address parental concerns and queries in a timely and professional manner, maintaining confidentiality as appropriate.
School Involvement & Supervision
- Take responsibility for assigned supervisory duties, including overseeing break times and managing a lunch table.
- Escort the class to and from events and activities, ensuring safety and appropriate behaviour during these transitions.
- Collaborate with colleagues to provide support and cover during teacher absences as required.
- Actively contribute to the wider school community and ethos, ensuring a cohesive, supportive environment for all pupils.
Health & Safety
- Ensure that the classroom and outdoor learning areas are safe, stimulating, and well-maintained, creating a conducive environment for learning.
- Adhere to school policies regarding safeguarding, health and safety, and child protection, ensuring the welfare of all children at all times.
In addition:
- Contribute to the extra-curricular provision within the school.
- All staff are required to attend the main school functions, such as Prize Giving, the Carol Service, open days, parents’ evenings and plays / concerts.
Annual Salary:
- Oakhyrst Grange pay scale – information available on request
- The position is pensionable.
- There is a 40% remission of fees for staff children educated at Oakhyrst Grange.

About Oakhyrst Grange School
Oakhyrst Grange School is a preparatory day school for boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 11.
The school was established in 1950 and moved to its present premises in Caterham, Surrey in 1957. Since September 1973 the school has been administered by a non-profit making trust.
Standing in five acres of beautiful open countryside and woodland and surrounded by the Green Belt, the School enjoy s a unique and inspiring setting, nestling amongst the Surrey Hills.

Music and drama play a large part in the life of the school. Children learn a wide variety of instruments both within school hours and as part of the extra-curricular activities provided. They also perform at regular concerts and music festivals as part of one of the school’s ensembles, including those featuring the clarinet, violin, trumpet, flute and guitar. Oakhyrst’s large and popular choir can also be heard regularly and children of all ages get a taste of perform on stage in school productions throughout the year.
In addition to the curriculum, the pupils can also enjoy an extensive range of clubs and activities.
