Job overview

We are seeking an experienced Finance Officer to play a key role in our finance team, which is responsible for all finance functions within Emanuel School.  

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the purchase ledger, ensuring that invoices are processed promptly and payments are made accurately
  • Managing the nominal ledgers, ensuring all journals are posted correctly, accounts are reconciled and maintained appropriately
  • Processing the weekly BACS run, ensuring all invoices are correctly authorised and coded
  • Setting up new supplier accounts and maintaining existing account details and relationships
  • Processing and administering all ancillary payments
  • Reconciling all key accounts on a monthly basis, including bank reconciliations
  • Managing the accounting and record keeping for capital projects
  • Ensuring correct processing of monthly catering journals
  • Providing all budget holders with support regarding their yearly budgets as appropriate
  • Processing staff expenses
  • Assisting with the external audit process

To be considered for this role, you will be part qualified, or working towards a professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA), with excellent financial knowledge, including accounting standards, accounting software and VAT.

Experience of bookkeeping / management accounting, adhering to financial controls and monitoring budgets is equally important.

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1000 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.

We are an ambitious community. This summer, 87% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 37% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 53%. This is 20% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic outcomes in the country. The recent ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”

We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next 3-4 years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both areas of traditional strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in last year’s Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.

Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.
