We are seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic Geography Teacher. Full time or part applications will be considered. An excellent knowledge and understanding of the subject is essential. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’.

The humanities team at Adwick is a large team of over 10 subject specialists, delivering History, Geography, RE/Life, Psychology and Criminology. Our team thrives on its ability to build knowledge, develop skills and instil a passion and desire to learn more and more about the world around them. Having such a large team, from different career stages from ECT to Assistant Principal, gives us the opportunity to put forward creative ideas, discuss them, reflect on them and develop them even further, giving our students the best opportunities in lessons and providing outstanding teaching and learning in all classrooms.

CPD is incredibly important in our team, both focussed on our subject areas through OGAT subject director training and also through whole school teaching and learning. All our classrooms are located along 2 corridors creating a very close-knit department who are very supportive of each other through the sharing of resources and also creating a welcoming environment for our students as they go down the corridors towards our amazing lessons.

At Key stage 3, both History and Geography are taught for 1 hour in Y7 and 2 hours in both y8 and y9, and life is taught Y7-10 for 1 hour a week. Both history and geography are popular options at GCSE, we deliver Edexcel for history including Medicine through time, Elizabethan England, American West and Weimar and Nazi Germany, and for geography AQA with Natural Hazards, Living world, Rivers and Coasts, changing urban environments, economic world and resource management with a focus on water. As part of the Outwood Doncaster Post 16, we offer geography (AQA), history (AQA), government and politics (AQA), psychology (AQA), criminology (WJEC) and EPQ (AQA).

We have worked hard to develop our curriculum at key stage 3 to create an engaging and knowledge rich programme of study.

In history this is done in a chronological way with Y7 topics such as Ancient and Medieval Migration to Britain, the Norman Conquest of England and the Tudors, Y8 topics include the Stuarts and the English Civil War, Imperialism and the British Empire and the First World War, Y9 topics include Race Relations within the USA and UK, a Post-War Britain and then a Post-War world with a focus on Vietnam and Chernobyl. This allows our students to develop a solid and coherent understanding of British History and its place in the larger Global History.

In Geography we go beyond the national curriculum and deliver our curriculum through 5 geography concepts of physical processes, human development, interactions, climate change and sustainability and thread these through different place and theme units such as development, ecosystems, wild weather, oceans, Africa, Asia, Middle East and Russia to answer questions such as ‘Is tourism a blessing or a curse’. We are currently working hard to ensure students are confident in the fieldwork enquiry process and GIS.

Life lessons encompass PSHE, citizenship and religious education. It is taught by a wide team of a Life specialist, humanities teachers and also other teachers across the wider academy. Students find Life lessons engaging, up to date and an amazing opportunity to discuss real life situations and experiences as our students and staff develop really good relationships, which creates a community atmosphere and a positive safe learning environment. All lessons are fully resources for specialists and non-specialists and topics we cover include Y7 Health, Y8 Staying safe, Y10 Universal Human Rights and Y10 Philosophy and Ethics.
