The Exciting Role 

A new and exciting opportunity has become available for a Curriculum Leader and/or Teacher Educator. The area is in growth and has plans to expand its offer to meet the needs of our East Lancashire employer base and beyond. Programmes running in the area are validated by the University of Huddersfield, LJMU and the University of Cumbria with whom the college has excellent partnership relations. The college is part of the Huddersfield Consortium for ITE in the Lifelong Sector and the role will likely include responsibility for Centre Management of ITE provision. The Team also provides programmes in the wider education field as well as business and management undergraduate programmes including L&CIoT provision for Health Care Management.

This role also comes with the following remission:

  • CL: 288 hours 
  • Centre Manager ITE: 96 hours

The successful candidate will be primarily based at Accrington & Rossendale College University Centre but will be required to travel across sites.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Teach up to a maximum of 426 hours annually, modelling outstanding practice across the subject areas of Education & Business.
  • Act as the Centre Manager for ITE with the University of Huddersfield/Consortium partner.
  • Lead on the further development of higher qualifications.
  • Work with the Dean of HE and the Director of Academic Standards to ensure teams comply with all College Quality Processes. This will include; regular ‘in-year’ programme and assessment. reviews, validations and audits, liaison with HEIs and/or awarding bodies, external examiners, moderators, and the full implementation of the HE regulations and the College quality system.
  • Take responsibility for achieving the section’s targets in retention, attendance, achievements, high grades, and student satisfaction.
  • Support the Dean of HE with staffing activities in the curriculum team, including timetabling, covering staff absence, monitoring teaching hours, assisting with goal setting and conducting staff reviews if required.
  • Ensure professional development activities are appropriately planned for the team.
  • Develop and share resources for the course/subject including maintaining effective links across college for resources.
  • Deliver enrichment and enhancement activities in line with college policies.
  • Undertake required assessment duties in relation to student assignments.
  • Maintain comprehensive, up to date, student/course/subject records and provide information, as requested.
  • Be responsible for the appropriate administration of exam entries for the course/subject and liaise with HE registry and external awarding bodies, as appropriate.
  • Ensure close liaison and good communications with other staff in matters concerning students; supporting staff within the team in dealing with learner disciplinary issues etc.
  • Use College systems to track and communicate student progress.
  • Engage in curriculum development and planning activities, individually and as a team, identifying areas for development and implementing innovative approaches to curriculum delivery across the programme areas.
  • Lead the interview process (where appropriate) and interview prospective students in line with College policy and ensure that all learners are offered appropriate learning routes.
  • Represent the College / Division at internal / external meetings and events as appropriate.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A degree level qualification in a relevant subject
  • Recognised teaching qualification (essential) and Fellowship of the HEA or a willingness to pursue on appointment (desirable)
  • A higher degree or post graduate qualification
  • Experience of implementing, monitoring and reviewing quality assurance procedures to ensure continuous improvements in performance
  • Evidence of successful coordination of students and staff within a HE in FE setting

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
