Job overview
Rossall School is among the most successful and prestigious independent boarding and day schools in the North West with flourishing pupil numbers.
With an enticing and highly aspirational culture, Rossall School is offering opportunities for exceptional educators to come and work with supremely talented, inspiring and compassionate professionals to teach our hard working, ambitious and delightful pupils.
We are now recruiting for an experienced, inspiring and well qualified Head of Chemistry to join our thriving Science department from September 2025.
The Science Faculty consists of 13 teaching members of staff and a number of technicians. The individual sciences are taught from Year 9 and many pupils sit GCSEs in the three separate sciences. Biology, Chemistry and Physics are popular options at both A Level and within the IBDP.
Classrooms are well equipped with interactive televisions in every classroom. The subject is well resourced and members of the faculty work collaboratively to develop resources, share good practice and ensure excellent student progress through careful tracking and monitoring.
The School is in the process of upgrading Science spaces. This is an exciting time to be joining the faculty as Head of Chemistry with an opportunity to influence both the refurbishment of physical spaces as well as the associated enhancements that will be made to the Science curriculum and co-curriculum.
The Chemistry department is a vibrant and integral part of the Science department that aims to help all pupils achieve their potential in the subject. We pride ourselves on the frequency and quality of practical work that underpins all aspects of lessons and helps build technical, analytical and problem solving skills into all the various courses offered. Our 6th form pupils have an excellent record in the RSC Young Analyst competition and Chemistry Olympiad and as a department we contribute to the varied STEM courses and competitions younger students enter. We personally mentor pupils looking to apply for Chemistry based degrees and have a consistent record of success.
