The role:
Haberdashers' Boys' School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Head of Prep and Pre-Prep to provide exceptional leadership, oversight, and direction. This role is crucial in fostering a life-long love of learning and equipping pupils with the skills, attributes, and values needed to thrive in their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Direction: Lead the Prep and Pre-Prep with a focus on developing pupils' enthusiasm for learning and preparing them for the next phase of their education.
- Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with pupils and parents across all year groups, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment.
- Pupil Recruitment: Oversee pupil recruitment at the two key entry points, supported by the Head of Pre-Prep and the centralised Admissions and Marketing team.
- Senior Leadership Team: Act as a vital member of the Senior Leadership Team, ensuring the Prep and Pre-Prep contribute effectively to the all-through Boys' School.
- Visibility & Management: Be a visible presence in the Prep School, leading, managing, and inspiring the staff. Collaborate closely with the Head of Pre-Prep to ensure alignment and effective operation.
- Transition & Collaboration: Facilitate smooth transitions between the Boys’ Prep and the Senior School, and nurture relationships between the Boys' and Girls' Schools at key stages in the children's education.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Senior leadership experience, either as a member of a leadership team, or as Head is deemed essential.
- Demonstrable evidence of having managed and developed others effectively.
- Knowledge of maintaining and building on high performance; has experience of most, if not all, areas of a school’s operations, including regulation and effective resource management.

About Haberdashers' Boys' School
Haberdashers' Boys' School is a large independent school located in the village of Elstree, Hertfordshire. Founded in 1690, the all-through school educates around 1,200 boys aged 5-18, all of whom are day pupils.
The School has a selective admissions policy, with prospective students for the senior school expected to pass entrance exams across a range of subjects. The best-performing boys are interviewed to ascertain their suitability for a place at the School. Entrance to the pre-prep and prep departments is also selective, with assessed playgroup sessions and exams used depending on the boy’s age.

Pedagogy and teacher development takes a collaborative approach which is both voluntary and open-minded. Many teaching staff attend Learning Lunches where their peers will demonstrate new developments or ideas with which they have been experimenting. In addition, teachers can request specific training which is often run in well attended Twilight Training sessions at the end of a school day. The School operates an ‘open door’ approach with teachers regularly observing and learning from each other.
