The Bishop Strachan School’s well-respected and much-loved Head is retiring in 2026, leading the school to seek its next leader.

Located in the heart of Toronto, The Bishop Strachan School (BSS) is a world-class independent Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 Day and Boarding school for girls. Home to 960 students (72 of whom are boarders), BSS is celebrated for its welcoming community, outstanding programs, and bold vision: to be an inspirational force for women to reach their full potential as transformative leaders. For more than 150 years, BSS has inspired its students to be fearless and has educated them to be leaders. Through its challenging academic program, its exceptional range of co-curricular offerings, and its outstanding employees, the school is a centre of excellence in girls' education. As the Head of School you will:

  • be accountable to the Board of Governors and have an overall responsibility for the leadership of the school – both academic and administrative
  • be a strong and respected educational leader with a track record of mentoring and developing faculty, encouraging students, and fostering a dynamic and healthy school community
  • bring significant administrative experience, the skills to advance cutting-edge teaching and learning and a passion for girls’ education
  • thrive in a collegial and caring culture working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents, the Board and alumnae
  • be a relationship builder with a deep and abiding connection to students and a genuine interest in their lives
  • have the skills and experience to engage all members of the school community in imagining and pursuing an exciting future for the school
  • bring a willingness and commitment to further the school’s culture of philanthropy
  • have significant experience leading a team of educators and administrators

Above all, the Head of School will be a person of exceptional integrity and character, with superb interpersonal and communications skills and an ability to forge deep and meaningful relationships across the school community.

About The Bishop Strachan School (BSS)

The Bishop Strachan School (BSS) is an all-girls, independent all-through school with sixth form and boarding in Canada, serving students from the age of 4-17. The all-through school, situated in Toronto, Ontario, has approximately 900 students on record. 

The Bishop Strachan School was founded in 1867 and is the oldest independent and boarding school for girls in Canada.

The Bishop Strachan School wants all students to benefit from an outstanding education in a safe and welcoming learning environment. Pupils are encouraged to reach their full academic, personal and spiritual potential and achieve to the highest of their ability. Dedicated teaching staff aim to nurture and encourage all girls personal attributes so that they leave as confident and fulfilled young women, ready for the next stage of their lives.The all-through school wants students to hold high aspirations for their future and organises school trips both locally and abroad to help them be inspired by the world around them, along with international exchanges so that they have the opportunity to learn about other cultures and ways of life. There are over 80 extra-curricular activities on offer for pupils to enhance their education outside of the classroom, develop their talents and learn new skills. These include choir practice, music lessons, drama productions, a public speaking team and a robotics club, along with the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which is designed to advance their social, mental, emotional, physical and spiritual development. It is important to the school that pupils understand their roles as active citizens and they are encouraged to take part in community projects to serve people in the local area, along with fundraising for charities.
