We are currently seeking a Head of School to join our team in August 2025. We welcome applications from the UK state and independent sector as well as from those already working internationally. Successful applicants will be offered a two year contract, renewable by mutual agreement, with competitive terms of employment and outstanding working conditions.


Head of School Job Summary

The Head of School at Astra Academy will be responsible to lead the overall management of the school, through coordination with faculty, students, parents and the school board to proactively advance the school's mission and vision to meet its objectives of academic excellence, promoting strong community culture, achieve highest quality and ensuring the successful day-to-day operations of the institution while driving innovative educational practices.


Head of School Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership that promotes academic achievement, student well-being, and a vibrant school culture. Develop long-term goals, strategies organized plans to advance the mission of the school, and.

Operational Management: Oversee the daily functioning of the school, ensuring that all programs, departments, and facilities operate efficiently. To acquire and actively manage the school resources to meet its needs.

Academic Excellence: Support the development of a rigorous and inclusive curriculum that promotes high standards of student learning. Collaborate with faculty to ensure instructional practices meet the diverse needs of students.

Community Engagement: Foster a positive, collaborative relationship with parents, staff, students, and external stakeholders. Represent the school within the broader community, strengthening partnerships and increasing visibility.

Faculty Development: Recruit, retain, and mentor high-quality staff. Promote professional growth and ongoing development opportunities to maintain high standards of teaching.

Student Development: Ensure the holistic development of students by supporting academic, extracurricular, and emotional well-being programs.

Compliance and Governance: Ensure the school complies with all applicable regulations, safety standards, and policies, while maintaining clear communication with the Board.


Head of School Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Proven senior leadership role and experience (min 3-5 years) of a school (preferably as a Head of School/ Principal) managing team of min 5 teachers.
  • Bachelor or Master degree in Education or related field with teaching qualification QTS
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience of the National Curriculum for England (Cambridge)
  • Excellent and positive communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong skills in organization, planning, leadership, team management, problem-solving and follow up to resolve issues
  • Responsive to feedback
