Discovery College is searching for a Head of Secondary. This role is responsible for building around the College’s vision, mission, outcomes and strategic direction while working collaboratively with the Principal and leading the Secondary staff. 


Job Summary

As part of its through-school identity, Discovery College strives to provide a coherent, aligned learning experience for every student across Years 1 - 13. The senior leaders of the College work together to ensure continuous improvement of this experience, built around the College’s vision, mission, outcomes and strategic direction. The Head of Secondary is responsible for enacting these in the Secondary section, working collaboratively with the Principal and leading the Secondary staff.


Responsibilities

Leading the Secondary Section:

  • Contribute to the College’s strategic direction, implementing it in a sector-specific context. Ensure a culture of evidence-informed practice that secures the best possible outcomes for every student
  • Support the Principal in reporting sector-specific aspects of the College’s work to key stakeholders. Lead parent partnership for the sector in order to maximise student outcomes. Ensure parent or student concerns are dealt with in a diplomatic manner and in accordance with the College’s vision and intended educational outcomes
  • With the Principal and other key staff, ensure the recruitment of educational and non-educational staff according to the needs of the sector. Working with the relevant Directors, ensure sector staff are developed through Professional Reflection and Development, Professional Learning, and other relevant means
  • Ensure that the College’s curriculum meets the needs and contexts of all learners and provides a coherent education within and beyond the sector, in fulfilment of the College’s vision and intended educational outcomes


Other Leadership Responsibilities:

A variety of strategic and operational responsibilities in the relevant sector as determined according to need, including:

  • Line management of staff/teams, including via Professional Reflection and Development and the fostering of collaborative working practices
  • Participation in recruitment as appropriate to the role
  • Student support, including through attachment to specific year group(s)
  • Work to develop the College’s approaches and practices in relation to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • Lead the development of the timetable, in coordination with the Director of Curriculum
  • Work on special projects, developments and innovation
  • Policy development and review
  • Quality Assurance development and implementation
  • Leadership and administration of key processes such as Admissions for specific sections of the College
  • Teaching responsibilities as appropriate to the role 


Other Duties:

  • Other duties and accountabilities as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed-upon objectives.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, or
  • Bachelor's Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
  • Relevant teaching experience within a recognised educational organisation
  • Senior leadership experience in a similarly sized school
  • Experiences in a range of different schools and/or a school with a well-developed international outlook
