Teaching ServicePlumpton High School is located in an urban area serving a diverse population within a low socioeconomic context. Currently 1065 students attend the school, representing over 65 different nationalities and including approximately 115 Aboriginal students. The numerous extra-curricular opportunities include the areas of performing arts, student leadership, engineering and technology, the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, the environment and media and communication.
Plumpton High School was selected to present at World Education Week in 2021, was a finalist in the Australian Education Awards 2020 in the categories of ‘Secondary School of the Year – Government’ and the ‘Best Co-Curriculum Program’. The school was also named as one of the most innovative in Australia in 2019-2020 with the Principal also named as the Australian Principal of the Year (Government Schools) in 2019. There is a strong culture of school-developed professional learning to facilitate our vision as expressed in our strategic plan, which is based on the premise that excellence is achieved when the school community is courageous and commits to being the best we can be, contributing to the local and global context in a meaningful way.
Our strategic directions will facilitate a whole school cultural shift in thinking around individual and collective performance and achievement. Through a focus on personal best in all areas of school life, we will use evidence-based/data informed processes, feedback, reflective practices and collaboration to create opportunities for incremental, achievable and measurable growth.
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
Demonstrated capacity to lead and manage the English Faculty in the development and implementation of innovative evidence-based year 7-12 English teaching, learning, assessment and literacy that focuses on the engagement of a diverse student cohort.
Demonstrated capacity to lead and manage capacity building of a diverse faculty in a large metropolitan high school with high volume and a high level of complexity.
Capacity to work collaboratively as an effective member of the school executive team to lead initiatives that address whole school strategic priorities.
Knowledge of and demonstrated commitment of the NSW Aboriginal Education Policies, strong commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and have the ability to meet the needs of students and parents from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
