Job overview

The Unicorn School has a team of highly qualified teachers and support workers, and class sizes are kept small so that every pupil receives the individual attention and tailored interventions they need. 

The Key responsibilities for this role will be to:

  • Assist in the promotion, direction and oversight of high standards of teaching and learning, pupil achievement and progression through effective inclusion for pupils with special educational needs.
  •  Liaise with Local Authority SEN officers in relation to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Chair Annual Review meetings of EHCPs.
  •  Liaise with visiting therapists and/or assessors.
  • Be consistent in the delivery of all the School policies and practices
  • Keeping all paperwork including records and policies, up to date and actioned, as appropriate.
  • Meet with parents to support SEN, including advising on EHCP process.
  • To monitor the quality of SEN support delivered both by teachers and teaching assistants.
  • To ensure that awareness of SEND issues is maintained across all teaching staff.
  • To maintain a thorough and up to date knowledge and understanding of the current SEND Code of Practice and of the school’s curriculum and policies.
  • To participate in INSET provided by the School and where appropriate to lead INSET on SEND issues.
  • Ensure that each child has appropriate Exam Access Arrangements in place and that these demonstrate the child’s ‘usual way of working’.
  • Working with Careers Lead and form tutors to ensure that pupils have a careers education programme and personalised advice to support their post-16 prep
  • To ensure all KS4 pupils have carefully planned transitions to their post-16 destinations.
