About The Role

Following the recent science restructure, we are looking for a Lead Teacher of Physics within the Science Department on a permanent basis, which is associated with a TLR2a of £3,214 pa.

The School

Matthew Arnold School, on Oxford’s outskirts, is an inclusive, oversubscribed 11-18 community school with over 1,300 students from urban and rural areas. Known for high achievement and increasing progress among disadvantaged students, the school emphasises personalised outcomes and staff development. Part of the Acer Trust, it collaborates with other Trust schools to enhance teaching and learning.

General Duties:

  • Assist the Curriculum Leader and lead on the teaching of Physics 
  • Monitor teaching across Physics groups and ensure that PAG standards are met and required procedures are upheld
  • Contribute to developing and sustaining the best inclusive and challenging teaching and learning experiences for all students with a specific focus on the progress of any identified priority students in Physics
  • Responsible for developing subject knowledge including specifications as appropriate
  • Work with the Curriculum Lead to help to develop a range of extra-curricular activities relevant to Physics
  • Liaise with other departments over relevant links to the STEM curriculum
  • Lead on the science department contribution to whole school enrichment programme, including enrichment days where required

Teaching Duties:

  • Teach Physics across KS3-KS5 and manage a tutor group
  • Follow Teachers' Standards, including setting high expectations, planning structured lessons, and adapting teaching
  • Supporting activities and events to promote Physics more generally within the school’s external partnerships (e.g. OCL and Acer Trust (secondary partnerships)

Specific Contributions:

  •  Develop Physics schemes of work and resources
  • Participate in extra-curricular initiatives and promote Physics through partnerships

General Expectations:

  • Adhere to school policies and support performance reviews
  • Safeguard student welfare and comply with health and safety regulations
