About the role

32.5 hours per week, fixed term to 31/08/2025

Cedar Road Primary School are looking for a creative and motivated Learning Mentor/Cover Supervisor to join our hard working, caring and dedicated team. The role requires you to provide mentoring support to specified individuals or groups of pupils in order to raise motivation and academic achievement.

  • To work with individual pupils who have been identified as under performing or through the referral route to identify and investigate barriers to learning.
  • Devise and implement individual mentoring programmes to assist pupils to remove barriers to learning, gain self-confidence and improve their performance. Monitor their progress to ensure the support is effective and productive. This may include the setting of SMART targets with pupils to encourage their involvement and progress.
  • Liaise with teaching staff and SENDCo and monitor the progress of pupils using the mentoring service to ensure the Learning Mentor support is relevant to the curriculum and/or the needs of the individual so that support has continuity.
  • Develop contact with families/carers of pupils who have identified needs as appropriate to keep them informed of progress and secure positive family support for the pupil and maintain good working relations between home/school.
  • Compile records and progress reports for students as appropriate for the mentoring process and make accessible to appropriate members of staff so that the mentoring is accountable and quantifiable in terms of its effectiveness.
  • You will liaise with LSAs regarding individual students being supported in any class being covered.
  • You will administer clear instructions to the class, based on the detailed work set and actively supervise students as they carry out work.
  • You will inform the subject teacher of any non-participation by individual students.
  • You will contribute to the evaluation of work set for cover lessons.
  • You will provide feedback on learning activities and contribute to Academy review and development planning.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a creative and motivated Learning Mentor/Cover Supervisor to join our hard working, caring and dedicated team.

  • Educated to GCSE level grade C or above, including English and Maths, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience at that level.
  • Experience of establishing good relationships with children whilst establishing firm boundaries.
  • Experience of working creatively with children to identify strengths and development with children.
  • Demonstrate empathy, communication, listening and interpersonal skills when dealing with children, colleagues and parents/carers.
  • Commitment to and or experience of working with children and young people.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage children to meet their targets for learning and/or behaviour.
  • Excellent verbal and written inter-personal skills at all levels
