Job overview

We are seeking a full time LSA for a pupil at key stage 1 at a small independent school in North West London. The child is academically capable and in need of some extra support to engage with lessons and flourish at school.

  • The role will involve helping the child stay on task, supporting learning as needed.
  • Help the child to regulate as needed, including stepping out of the classroom for movement breaks.
  • Support the start of the school day when they need someone who can make a connection and support the transition into the classroom. 
  • The child is very capable of completing class work, but needs extra support to engage with the teaching.

Background Information

  • The child finds parts of the school day particularly challenging. 
  • They love to read, to learn about science and maths, to talk about computer games and imaginative play.
  • There are some demand avoidance issues, so someone used to working with demand avoidance is key. Understanding the effect of demands on the nervous system is important.
  • A sense of humour, patience and understanding will be important.  
  • Knowing when to give space, whilst being available for support when needed. 

The role is Monday-Friday 8-4pm.  Breaks for lunch and school playtimes in line with the school timetable. 

Candidates shall:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Have a clear DBS
  • Have experience working with  neurodivergent children
  • Have experience with demand avoidance
  • Be creative in redirection
  • Have a good sense of humour while supporting boundaries
  • Have an interest in science! 
  • Be available to start as soon as possible
