Brockenhurst College have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer in Nautical Studies (Deck) to join the team on a part time, permanent basis at our Marchwood site. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £31,000 - £41,217 per annum DOE for qualified teachers. A separate scale for unqualified teachers applies, however, an additional market supplement may be available dependent on sector experience/other relevant qualification to ensure a competitive salary for this role for both candidate types. 

We are a high-achieving college who attract around 2,800 sixth form students across the region each year. We are based within the stunning New Forest National Park and offer our students a huge range of courses and superb facilities.

About the role:

As the Lecturer in Nautical Studies, you will continually improve the learning experience and achievement of students through effective teaching and assessing.

Responsibilities as our Lecturer in Nautical Studies will include:

·       Undertake a teaching commitment as defined by the college, this will include delivering both theory and practical (workshop) classes

·       Undertake the role of personal tutor and deliver tutorials and conduct progress reviews with students

·       Promote high attendance across the study programme and follow up all non – attendance and unauthorised absence

·       Plan, develop and deliver teaching learning and assessment on an agreed range of courses using  appropriate delivery methods which considers learning styles, learning methods and new technologies.

·       Mark students work and ensure that feedback is constructive to enable the student to further improve including spelling, grammar, and punctuation as part of the feedback.

·       Pay due attention to the principles of inclusive learning

·       Contribute to the design, delivery and future planning of the study programme and take responsibility for specific course organisation and curriculum development work.

·       Manage the delivery of the blended learning curriculum for your course ensuring that students complete the required number of hours as stated in the study programme allocated hours

·       Promote British Values, Prevent alongside Equality, Diversity and Safeguarding

·       Develop and maintain effective external links related to the delivery of the subject/course and represent the College at relevant meetings internal and external

As our Lecturer in Nautical Studies, you’ll ideally have:

·       MCA OOW Certificate of Competency REG11/1 Unlimited

·       Level 3 Certificate in Nautical Science

·       HND Level 4

·       GCSE English – Grade 5 and above

·       GCSE Maths – Grade 5 and above

·       Merchant Navy Officer, with a minimum of 12 months’ sea time or

·       Royal Navy Equivalent with a minimum of 12 months watchkeeping

·       The ability to teach young adults and managing discipline.

·       The ability to manage learners and learning effectively

·       The ability to develop effective learning resources

·       Experience of using maritime/bridge simulators
