Job overview
Hatherop Castle School is seeking to appoint a driver to support the morning and afternoon school runs. The primary focus will be to work very closely with the small and enthusiastic team of drivers, collecting children and bringing them into school in the morning, and returning them in the afternoons. This is a salaried position for 2 hours each morning and 2 hours each afternoon, during school term time (35 weeks of the year, paid for 40 weeks).
The minimum qualification requirement is a B (car) licence, which will permit them to drive a 9-seater vehicle. If the chosen candidate has a full D1 licence (without 101 exemption, sometimes called “grandfather rights”), they will also be able drive the school 17-seater minibuses. (If you don't have a full D1 licence, there will be the opportunity to obtain one).
Subject to obtaining the full D1 licence, there is also the option for additional hours during the school day, including school trips and sports fixtures, which happen frequently.
Making a positive impression is vital to the school, and the driver will play a key role in that, giving the children an excellent experience and allowing the full potential of the school to be realised.
Key responsibilities include:
- Full vehicle checks each morning.
- Driving a variable route to collect pupils, either from agreed bus stops or their home addresses, and bring them into school.
- Ensure all driving is safe and legal.
- Liaising with parents to understand which children require collection each day and confirm locations, and manage routes accordingly. (Some children take the bus every day from the same location, some only take the bus certain days, sometimes they add/remove journeys, and sometimes collection points vary).
- Liaise with other drivers to inform them of potential changes to their afternoon run. (Some children are picked up by one driver and dropped off by another, as morning and afternoon routes vary).
- Ensure their vehicle remains clean both inside and out.
- Report any vehicle maintenance issues.
GIVEN THE NEED TO FILL THE POST BY SEPTEMBER, WE WILL BE INTERVIEWING APPLICANTS AS THEY APPLY, AND WILL CLOSE THE VACANCY AS SOON AS A SUITABLE CANDIDATE HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED. INTERESTED APPLICANTS ARE THEREFORE ADVISED TO SUBMIT THEIR APPLICATION OR CONTACT THE SCHOOL ASAP.
