Holy Mary British Catholic School started as a nursery school in Madrid through the vision of its founders, Marta and María Riva de Aldama. It was opened to cater for parents who wished their children to have a British style education based on Catholic values. It expanded due to great demand from parents and continued to provide education as a primary school. Further pressure from parents resulted in the opening of the secondary school. Our IGCSE and A level results, and the accompanying university destinations of our pupils can be viewed on our website. Currently, we are the only British Catholic School towards the centre of Madrid with approximately 700 students enrolled.
We are committed members of NABSS, CISC and ACADE.
Holy Mary British Catholic School will continue its controlled growth over the next 2 years, with a determined drive to achieve continuous school improvement, and a creative and inclusive curriculum. We have a fantastic set of teachers and pupils, and highly supportive parents. We are protective of our warm and friendly working environment, and we look to recruit inspirational teachers to help maintain that atmosphere and to join our team of hard-working, talented, and enthusiastic professionals.
To start in January or September 2025, we are searching for an experienced secondary teacher of physical education.
Suitable candidates will have:
- At least 2 years’ teaching experience
- British or EU citizenship (help to acquire any necessary work permit will be offered)
- Qualified Teacher Status
- A mindset and attitude which is supportive of our Catholic ethos
- A commitment to the safeguarding of all children
Applicants should:
- Be comfortable teaching KS3, KS4, and IGCSE PE
- Be predisposed to teaching PE to KS2 pupils (previous experience and or qualifications in this area will be an advantage)
- Possess the ability to inspire pupils whatever sporting disposition those pupils have
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Be excellent teaching practitioners who are caring, enthusiastic and committed
- Maintain high expectations of the achievement and behaviour of all pupils
- Be an effective team player
- Have an awareness of the research findings of Hattie and Dweck

Holy Mary British Catholic School started as a nursery school here in Madrid through the vision of its founders, Marta and Maria Riva de Aldama. Further pressure from parents has again resulted in the opening of the Secondary School with the first phase of the building opening in 2013. Currently Holy Mary has around 500 students across the three sites of Cinca, Condes de Val and Todo Ninos with an age range from 1-15. Holy Mary is the only British Catholic School in the centre of Madrid and we are a member of NABSS (TheNational Association of British Schools in Spain), COBIS (Council of British International Schools), CISC (Catholic Independent Schools Conference) and ACADE.
