Caterham Education Centre (and other Surrey sites)

Part of the Aurora Group, Caterham Education Centre (CEC), in Caterham Surrey are currently looking to recruit a PE Teacher. CEC is a 30-place secondary/post 16 learning centre supporting young people aged 11 – 16 who have difficulties with communication and social interaction, typically associated with Autism, ADHD, and associated SEN. 

CEC is linked to Aurora Redehall School, they share the same Principal and Head of School, however each site has its own Assistant Head and team of Teachers and TAs. There is also a full therapy team on site to support staff and students. Although the sites operate separately, students and staff do cross between sites.

Key Duties

You will be accountable to the school leadership teams to provide the following roles and responsibilities. Below is a small part of the responsibilities that you will hold,

  • To contribute to the delivery and development of the curriculum, having regard to the educational, physical and social needs of the students within a learning environment.
  • To monitor, assess, review and report on the progress and work of students to parents, team members, senior staff, examination and funding bodies through reports and identified meetings as directed and as is required through school policies and procedures.
  • To develop lesson plans analysing and self-reflecting on the outcomes.
  • To attend and contribute to all relevant meetings and maintain good lines of communication with other staff.
  • To contribute to the review of EHC plans, PEP and LAC reviews.
  • To provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge.
  • To liaise effectively with parents/carers.
  • To assist in the development of the curriculum offer.
  • To manage a delegated budget as required.
  • To work in a non-confrontational way to ensure individual needs are met.
  • To appropriately manage challenging behaviours within the school policy and procedures.

 

As part of the Aurora Surrey Schools, there will be a requirement for cross site working between sites in Caterham and Effingham. Please note that duties will vary and you will be expected to contribute to the overall aims of CEC when required. Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications

Essential 

  • PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent teaching qualification and evidence of in-service training.

Desirable 

  • Postgraduate diploma in Autism
  • Experience of working in a special school environment and in particular with pupils with autism.
  • Experience of successfully delivering a differentiated curriculum to pupils with a wide range of needs.

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of students with complex needs and SEND.
  • Evidence of sound knowledge of the national curriculum.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of autism and associated co-morbid conditions and how these can affect learning.
  • Curriculum development and implementation for pupils with SEND.

Skills

  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative, be well organised, prioritise effectively and achieve results against deadlines.
  • Ability to engage pupils in positive enabling relationships
