Grade 2, SCP 2 – Actual salary £5091 (pay award pending)

Oathall Community college is seeking to appoint a part-time PE technician to join our performance faculty to look after and maintain the PE resources and equipment. Reporting to the deputy head of faculty, the successful candidate will work as part of a team to ensure that equipment is prepared and ready for students to use in PE lessons.

Previous experience of working in a practical sports related role is preferred but we would consider applications from candidates with a ‘can do’, approach to work, and a willingness to learn and gain experience on the job. As you will be working in a school setting you will need to have good interpersonal and customer service skills.

Applicants should be aware that the role involves regular physical effort and exposure to environmental demands.

Hours of work

PE technician hours and days of work are flexible and to be agreed with the line manager. Very occasionally, you may be asked to work outside of these hours. (For example, our annual open day or occasional sports events such as school games day in school.)

The college is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.

Other benefits include free use of the fitness suite and participation in the generous local government pension scheme.

Applications should be completed via the website using a support staff application form along with our recruitment monitoring form and a short letter of application (no more than one side of A4). Please email the documents to jobs@oathall.org or post to Mrs Sara Atkin.

Closing date is 11am on Thursday 12 September.

Interviews will take place week commencing 16 September.

Suitable candidates may be invited to interview prior to the closing date and we reserve the right to close the vacancy early should sufficient applications be received.

Candidates are welcome to visit the college for a tour of the site before applying. If you wish to visit the college, please call Mrs Sara Atkin on 01444 883202 to arrange an appointment.

"Oathall is a large, happy school community" Ofsted inspection 2023

Oathall is a mixed comprehensive secondary school for students aged between 11 and 16.  We are situated on the boundaries of the town of Haywards Heath and the village of Lindfield in the heart of Mid-Sussex. The college opened in 1938 and has a full spectrum of specialist accommodation and facilities including well-equipped classrooms, a music centre, library, drama & dance studios, a fitness gym and a large sports hall. Outside we have large playing fields used for sport, a floodlit full-size 3G artificial turf pitch and a five acre farm. In 2022, we were told that Oathall was a confirmed project under the DFE school rebuilding progrmme. We anticipate the project will commence in around 2026-2027.

Our teaching and learning aim is simply to ensure the best possible progress and high attainment for every student.  We offer a broad, balanced curriculum based on our knowledge of our students that challenges and motivates students to achieve their best. Academic and vocational success is complemented by an extensive extra curricular programme. Oathall prides itself on its excellent pastoral organisation and inclusion policy which is recognised as an example of best practice. Pastoral care is based around a year group structure. We also operate a traditional house system, consisting of four houses, Discovery, Endeavour, Pioneer and Voyager.

Oathall works in a spirit of co-operation and industry with a deep respect for high standards of attitude and attainment. This, together with an excellent curriculum and friendly atmosphere, leads to the education of a first-rate set of well-adjusted and highly qualified young people. The strong and effective teaching staff, excellent resources and atmosphere of hard work ensure that Oathall children have the highest possible quality of learning.
