Job overview
An incredible opportunity to be part of a unique and brand new type of school. Wildwood Nature School is a charitable, independent, nature-based primary school, committed to offering equal access for all families through free and reduced-fee places. We’re a tiny school of just 19 children aged 4-8 years old. We opened in 2023 and we’ll grow to about 30 children total in 2027 when our oldest children will reach Year 6.
Our ethos is all about supporting children’s well-being. We do this by:
- spending most of the school day outdoors in nature;
- having very high staff ratios;
- following the Forest School principles;
- building a strong, inclusive community;
- championing play and creativity;
- empowering children with a democratic approach.
This role will involve joining our school on Fridays when we offer flexi-schooling. Half of the day is spent at the school and we're outside for half the day on Hampstead Heath or visiting other local green spaces. At Wildwood Nature School we are passionate about learning through play (especially outdoors), and the positive effect it has on children. To join our team you will need to share this passion and be committed to working hard to ensure that the children have the best experience possible every day they are with us.
Please read the applicant info pack for full details of the role and person specification.

Whole-hearted education in the wilds of London
Wildwood Nature School is a non-profit, independent, nature-based primary school for children aged 4-11 years. We offer an alternative to mainstream education with a strong focus on children’s well-being and spending time in nature following the Forest School principles.
Our mission is to create a different kind of school: one where children can learn, play and feel good about who they are, lovingly held by community and nature.
Wildwood Nature School’s ethos is about supporting each child to truly know themselves, be proud of who they are and to have the skills to connect with the people, animals and nature around them. By providing the right environment for children to thrive – caring adults, time in nature, space to roam and play, inspiring learning experiences, freedom to pursue their own interests, personalised and responsive teaching, being a part of the decision-making – we know that children will be able to do what they do most naturally: learn.
Our values:
- Well-being
- Community
- For everybody
- Play
- Empowering our children
- Connection to nature
