Job overview

The Island Private School of Limassol in Cyprus, which first opened its doors to 500 students in September 2022, is currently seeking passionate, experienced, and competent professionals to join our team. 

As we grow, we are in the process of planning our new school campus on a beautiful 50,000 m2 site to be completed approximately by end of 2025, that will include kindergartens, elementary and high schools, an international boarding school, and accommodation for teachers. This is a great opportunity to join a growing school on the cusp of a major turning point.

Now we are seeking an experienced and passionate Primary EAL (English as an Additional Language) Coordinator to lead and manage our school's EAL program. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Engagement and Interaction – School Ambassador to Internal Community

  • Promote the mission and philosophy of the school;
  • Establish a safe, purposeful learning environment for all students;
  • Promote the progress and well-being of all students;
  • Engage and motivate the students to be ambitious for themselves and others;
  • Supervise students in and out of classroom activities as part of the regular   curricular and extracurricular school programmes;
  • Always speak English in the classroom and within the student social areas of the school unless teaching a different language.


Learning and Teaching 

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop excellent lessons and schemes of learning; 
  • Plan varied, interactive, stimulating, challenging, learning lessons and clubs;
  • Teach up to 12 periods weekly according to the needs of the students in the class, differentiating for varying abilities;
  • Substitute other teachers as and when required.


Curriculum Development

  • Collaborate with the PYP Coordinator, Waldorf Coordinator, Montessori Coordinator, and Primary English Language and Literature Coordinator and other relevant stakeholders (e.g. Secondary school leaders) to design and refine the English Language (incl. preparation for Cambridge exams) curriculum, ensuring it aligns with the programmes philosophy and standards.
  • Develop age-appropriate learning materials, resources, and assessments to support the delivery of the curriculum.
  • Regularly review and update the curriculum to incorporate best practices and promote student engagement and progression.


Instructional Leadership

  • Provide guidance and support to English language teachers, assisting them in planning and delivering effective lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Conduct regular observations of English language classes to provide constructive feedback and identify areas for professional growth.
  • Promote the use of innovative teaching methodologies and technology to enhance English language instruction and student learning outcomes.


Professional Development

  • Coordinate professional development opportunities for English language teachers, ensuring they stay updated with the latest research, pedagogical approaches, and instructional resources.
  • Facilitate collaborative learning communities among English language teachers, encouraging the sharing of best practices and the development of a supportive professional network.
  • Commit to further professional development dedicating at least 1 hour per week to professional development tasks; 
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education and performance management activities;
  • Manage effective personal development as part of the school’s commitment to invest in staff.


Assessment and Reporting

  • In collaboration with the English Language & Literature Coordinator and Waldorf and Montessori Coordinators establish clear assessment criteria and procedures for evaluating student progress in English language learning and in preparation for Cambridge exams, in line with respective programmes assessment principles.
  • Analyse assessment data to identify trends, strengths, and areas of improvement in student learning, and use this information to inform instructional practices.
  • Collaborate with teachers and the school leadership team to prepare accurate and timely reports on student achievement and provide feedback to parents/guardians during parent-teacher conferences.
  • Providing purposeful and regular feedback to all students so that they understand how to improve upon their own learning; 
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of students using the school’s chosen method of recording and tracking; 
  • Analyse assessment data on a regular basis identifying individual students and cohorts of students who require further support/challenge; 
  • Set challenging targets for all students as a result of data analysis ensuring a percentage increase of progress year on year; 
  • Produce informative reports for parents, in a professional manner and meeting the deadline set by the school based upon tracking and assessment procedures adhered to within the school; 
  • Meet with parents/guardians and other interested parties as and when required, to discuss individual student progress; 
  • Be accountable for the learning outcomes of the students in your lessons.

 

Requirements:

  • The ideal applicant must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language Teaching, have excellent English language skills and have at least 5 years of experience.
  • We are looking for someone who is a teaching enthusiast, has a pleasant personality, is a team player, and is ready to work with dedication and passion to help international students meet the IB (International Baccalaureate) requirements.

Working Hours: 8:00 - 16:00, full-time
