Principal – Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill

Why might you be interested?

With superb state-of-the-art educational facilities located at the mouth of the Solent and within easy reach of major transport routes to Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Winchester and the delights of the South Downs National Park, Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill is an aspiring community-focused educational establishment that is now looking to appoint an innovative and inspirational principal to lead our academy in its next exciting phase.

Offering genuine career development opportunities that stretch way beyond the confines of a traditional school structures (Oasis is both international and also runs community hubs, food banks and even farms,) you would be joining a family that puts the welfare, wellbeing and recognition of our employees at the very centre of what we stand for and believe in.

We know leading an academy is a tough job requiring resilience and flexibility, especially one that needs improvement – which is why we wrap around an unrivalled support network of peers (such as your dedicated Regional Director Thomas Raymond) and innovative teacher educators to lean on and develop alongside; all aligned with the Oasis vision to deliver exceptional education within the heart of our communities, whilst providing the autonomy to put your stamp on your school.

You will develop and refine the Oasis curriculum at Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill and lead the implementation of a rich curriculum that delivers to the needs of your community whilst being given access (where needed) to expertise and experience to help our shared vision come alive.

You’ll co-devise, own and deliver the strategic roadmap that will take OA Lord’s Hill to ‘Good’ and beyond working in partnership with both the wider Oasis family and Southampton City Council.

And we are very proud that the combination of regional support and collaboration, an extensive CPD offer and full access to the National Institute of Teaching offers all our employees great career opportunities with leadership pathways.

Sounds like the perfect blend of free reign and behind the scenes support you are seeking?

About the role:

As an experienced headteacher/principal (or an exceptional senior leader) with a background in turnarounds and improvement, you know that the role of principal is the driving force, leading voice, innovation and vision behind an academy’s success.

Beyond the strategic direction you will provide inspiring leadership, ensure high standards of teaching and learning and continually working to cultivate a positive and supportive culture for staff, students and our local community of parents, carers and other stakeholders.

The role is an exciting one. The academy is ripe to improve. Supported by a recently appointed team of assistant principals, some established staff and the opportunity to develop other colleagues, you will be excited by the challenge of leading and motivating a team of committed educationalists to move a historically under-performing educational establishment with huge potential into an exceptional place of learning. This is supported by our fully resourced curriculum with digital innovation at its heart, evidenced by every pupil and teacher having an iPad and fully supported IT infrastructure.

With proven techniques and strategies to achieve systemic improvement your direction, supported by an outstanding network of experienced peers, will be the key ingredient we seek.

You will present as a resilient, creative and an effective change agent that brings everyone together in a shared vision that has student success and achievement at its very heart.

Next Steps:

If this is the sort of role that excites you, or you would like to find out a little more, we would like to talk to you. Thomas Raymond (our Regional Director) would love to have a confidential conversation with you.

However, seeing and experiencing is believing, so we would be delighted to organise a tour around our academy before you apply.  We want you to see the amazing work we have already done and are doing and for you to see where your expertise and experience can take us even further.

To arrange a chat with Thomas or to visit the academy, please contact us to arrange a date and time that’s convenient for you.

Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill opened in 2008 as part of the initial Academy programme. Since we have been open we have seen significant improvements in achievement, progress and attendance. Academic achievement has markedly improved for all students regardless of their needs or starting positions. In fact analysis of our data by prior attainment (low, middle and high) shows that we outperform most schools nationally. We have also seen a huge improvement in student attendance. This is a good indicator, because if students want to be at school they attend regularly.

We have a brand new building which offers our students outstanding learning opportunities. We are very fortunate to have these facilities and we are committed to making the most of them both for our students and the wider community.

The ethos of the Academy cannot simply be summed up by our new building, our improved results and better attendance. The heart and soul of Lord’s Hill can be summed up in our core values which are essential to every member of staff and are the essence of who we are.

Core values:

  • A passion to include everyone
  • A desire to treat everyone equally, respecting differences
  • A commitment to healthy and open relationships
  • A deep sense of hope that things can change and be transformed
  • A sense of perseverance to keep going for the long haul

As an Academy we are dreaming, planning and acting to ensure that Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill becomes an outstanding learning community. This is our aim, not for the praise of politicians or specialists, nor to lord it over others. We follow our aim because this community deserves it. We do it because it is the right thing to do.

If you feel that you too can make a difference to our students’ future we’d love to hear from you.
