Job overview

You won’t just transform our academy. You’ll transform our students’ lives.

You could wait a lifetime for an opportunity like this to appear again. Westbourne Academy has huge potential, but we need an exceptional leader to take us there. We need an inspiring and dedicated leader to embed a strong culture, improve attendance and ensure students achieve the outcomes of which they are capable.

At the heart of the Academy Transformation Trust, we deliver the best possible education to young people from relatively deprived urban backgrounds. We can boast a closely-knit, welcoming and passionate teaching team, students who want to make something of their lives, and a place at the very centre of the local community. In short, we’re an ambitious academy and we need an equally visionary Principal.

Let us be perfectly clear: we’re not just looking for another Principal and we’re not just looking for rapid improvement. As our trust’s name makes clear, we want you to deliver transformation: of the way we teach and learn, of student outcomes, and above all, the way our students see themselves and their futures.

Your dedication will make them realise that education is the key to success in life, and that with the right attitudes, skills and qualifications anyone can transcend their circumstances.

In return, we offer ongoing professional development to help you become the school leader you’ve always wanted to be. By joining us you will be working alongside a committed team with expertise in academy improvement, who have recently lifted two academies out of category to good, four from RI to good and one to outstanding.

What’s more, once you’ve made your mark on Westbourne Academy – we have a wealth of other academies that could benefit from your imagination and integrity as a member of the Trust’s senior management team.

If you would like to visit the school, appointments with Garry Trott, Director of Secondary Education, are available. To arrange your visit, please contact Garry by email on garry.trott@attrust.org.uk

If you are the visionary leader we need, we want to hear from you. For more information and to apply, please visit our vacancies page.

Closing date: 9:00am on 17th May 2024.

If this post attracts sufficient interest before the closing date, we may decide to close and interview for this vacancy at an earlier date, so an early application is advised.

Westbourne Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. All offers of employment will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check, an online check, 2 satisfactory references and any other necessary checks.

A warm welcome to Westbourne Academy!

We are on a very exciting journey as we strive to make sure that all of our students get a quality education and leave our academy with the personal skills to make them happy and successful young adults. We are a fully inclusive academy, who pride ourselves on striving to meet the needs of the individual.

We believe that strong academic progress and qualifications are important, but that they need to be accompanied with the softer skills of confidence, compassion, cooperation and effective communication. We pride ourselves on delivering a broad and balanced curriculum, where all students can discover the diversity of different subjects and experiences both within and outside of the academy. We encourage our staff to make teaching and learning engaging and challenging.

Our STAR ethos encapsulates what we are aspiring to achieve here at the academy on a daily basis.

Be Safe

Be Thoughtful

Be Accountable

Be Respectful

We strive for our students to have the knowledge and understanding to stay safe and to be able to make the right decisions in a rapidly changing world of technology, risk and social media.

We want our students to be thoughtful towards each other, our staff, our local community and our global community. Being polite, holding doors open, showing compassions for others through charity work are qualities that we hold very highly.

We need to prepare students to be accountable for their decisions and choices. That is why we put such high value on 100% attendance and punctuality. Students should take pride in their uniform, the presentation of their work and their commitment to home learning. Our duty is to create an appreciation that through accountability and hard work, students are rewarded and can reach for the stars.

Westbourne is a truly diverse and mixed community in terms of nationality and language. We strive to ensure that our students are respectful of this diversity and courteous to our staff and community.

We look forward to sharing our journey with you at this special academy.
