About St Mary MacKillop College 
St Mary MacKillop College is a Catholic co-educational secondary college operating within the Catholic Education Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn and is located across two campuses in the Tuggeranong Valley. Our school services over 2000 students that are supported by our 220 staff members across our two campuses. Our junior campus (Years 7 to 9) is located in Wanniassa and our senior campus (Years 10 to 12) is located a short distance away in Isabella Plains.

About the Role 
The Religious Education Coordinator (REC) will largely have a curriculum focus with responsibility for leading Religious Education classes in Years 10, 11 and 12. As such, the position will be based on the St Peter’s Campus (Years 10, 11 and 12).

The REC is responsible for building a culture of high-performing staff who showcase best practices in teaching and learning, providing opportunities for staff to continue developing their capacity to work together and collaborate. The Religious Education Coordinator will support the Principal and College Executive in the leadership and management of the College. This leadership role involves modelling of excellence in teaching and learning and the development of innovative and challenging curriculum

Key Responsibilities 

  • Stewardship and articulation of our Vision as a Catholic School and as St Mary MacKillop College;
  • Modeling quality Catholic School leadership in the area of teaching/ learning and curriculum;
  • Ensuring that, in the spirit of Mary MacKillop, an attitude of social justice principles is evident in our policy and curriculum documents;
  • Ensure that staff within the teaching and learning area promote the Church’s teaching in the course of their work;
  • Be a mentor for staff development and appraisal;
  • Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate curriculum;
  • Demonstrate curriculum leadership within the College by developing effective programs of study and ensuring that these are based on principles of inclusivity and equity;
  • Communicate with parents as required, taking every opportunity to strengthen and enhance the relationship between students, parents and the staff on behalf of the College community;
  • Promote the faculty in a variety of ways, working closely with the staff and College community;
  • Meet all administration requirements applicable to the particular area of responsibility such as, reporting and assessment procedures, excursion requirements, course registers, evaluations and outlines;
  • Ensure that facilities and equipment provided by the College are well used, maintained and accounted for;
  • Ensure correct ordering maintenance and care of equipment; and
  • Maintain a contemporary collection of resources.

Qualifications  

  • Must hold a relevant Working with Children registration and Teaching Accreditation.  
  • Must have completed or be due to complete am Accreditation D

To teach Religious Education in a Catholic school an employee must:

  • Must be a practicing Catholic
  • Have completed 6 undergraduate subjects or 4 postgraduate subjects
  • Must have completed an Accreditation D – Teach Religious Education in a Catholic school

Selection Criteria 

  1. Promote stewardship of our Vision for a Catholic School in the Josephite tradition;
  2. Be an outstanding teacher of experience and initiative who can work effectively with the curriculum team, colleagues, students and families;
  3. Demonstrate a deep knowledge of contemporary issues and practices surrounding inclusivity from Years 7-12;
  4. As a member of the Curriculum Leadership Team contribute to the development of pedagogy and assessment practices across the curriculum;
  5. As a leader of experience and initiative work effectively with the Principal, Executive and Middle management teams to develop a vision for Inclusive Education;
  6. Support the Principal and Executive to build community with staff, students and their families;
  7. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, parents and community agencies; and
  8. Support the Assistant Principal of Academic Care and Heads of Campus in leading Religious Education.

Other Eligibility Criteria 

  • You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident to be eligible to apply for this position.
