St. Leonards School is recruiting for a proactive, enthusiastic, and dedicated sports graduate to join our friendly team of residential staff and fully engage in the vibrant life of our bustling boarding community. Sport is integral to the life of our school, and we're keen to provide our students with a variety of physical activities to support their well-being. Whether it's swimming, golf, tennis, football, a background in strength and conditioning, or any other sport, we welcome candidates with expertise in these areas. The ability to offer a broad spectrum of sporting options ensures that our students can find activities that resonate with their interests and aspirations.

We prioritise providing exceptional pastoral care and support to our boarders, and at least two residential staff members oversee each of our three boarding houses. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Housemasters/Mistresses, assisting in the day-to-day care of boarders, providing overnight coverage, and proactively responding to the needs and interests of our students. Their role will be pivotal in ensuring that our students feel safe, fulfilled, and healthy.

Hours of Work: 51 hours per week which include 14 hours of boarding support, 20 hours of sports coaching, term time only i.e. 34 weeks per year. Temporary until 30 June 2025

Duties and Responsibilities:

Boarding Duties

  • Maintain effective communication with the Housemaster/Housemistress to plan for and carry out daily, weekly, termly duties under their direction;&l t;/li>
  • Supervise boarding students at all times; from early morning routines through to lights out;
  • Maintain high expectations and levels of discipline to encourage students to be polite, punctual, diligent and supportive of one another;
  • Foster the physical, social, cultural and spiritual development of all students, both boarding and day students;
  • Adopt a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, harassment, alcohol or substance abuse, raising any concerns to the Housemaster/Housemistress or Deputy Head (boarding);
  • Undertake house duties which may include general cleaning and tidying, laundry etc. as and when required;
  • Working closely with boarding colleagues, administer and oversee travel arrangements at the start and end of term/half term for boarding students;

Sports Coaching - Golf Coaching

  • Assist in administering the Golf Championships to expand and grow the tournaments.
  • Process and administer St Andrews Links ticket applications.
  • Ordering of Golf Clothing, St Leonards Golf Merchandise orders and related stock.
  • Organising bus schedule for Golf Programme Students.
  • Ordering Lunches for away events.
  • Booking accommodation for national trips and Golf Programme warm weather training camps.
  • Assist in travelling to Golf Events with the Director of Golf (Approx. 20 away trips a year)

Sports Coaching - PE &am p; Games

  • Work with the Director of Sport to assist with the full range of games coaching or other outdoor activities, including early evening and weekend team practice, matches or hobbies/activities. In addition to supporting swimming, athletics, badminton, basketball, tennis, hockey, squash and a variety of other activities.
  • Support the Games department in the delivery of PE/Games lessons and the preparation of resources and equipment for these.
  • Support the department’s organisation of major school events, including inter house sporting events.
  • Contribute to the department ’s promotion of sport as a healthy lifestyle choice! .

All pastoral staff who are not registered with the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS) must register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). Registration must occur within three months of starting in post.
