Science Teacher

Pay details: Pay Spine 1-9

Start date: January 2025

This is a full-time, one year fixed term contract/maternity cover, commencing January 2025.

We are looking for an exceptional and enthusiastic candidate to teach Science: we will consider any of the science specialisms and you do not need to be able to teach KS5, but experience of teaching KS5 would be beneficial. You will have excellent classroom skills and a desire to teach across the age and ability range from KS3 through to KS4.

Science is a very popular subject at St George’s and recent exam results are excellent. The successful candidate should be sympathetic to the needs of all children and be equally at home with weaker students as well as the brightest.

This post will suit early career teachers, or those considering returning to the profession, who want to join a school offering very high academic standards within a supportive, traditional and disciplined environment. St George’s actively supports teachers in their professional development. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to join one of the county’s top state boarding schools. In return we offer:

  • Additional training and support
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Free Lunch on working days
  • Use of the school’s fitness suite/Gym
  • Staff Wellbeing Programme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Free parking on school site
  • As a permanent member of staff you benefit from the application being favourably ranked if you apply for a day admission place for your child at St George’s school, subject to meeting the requirements of our published Admissions Criteria and Policy

For details of the role please refer to the Application Pack and Job Description.

Applications will be shortlisted throughout the process and we may interview and close the advert early if we are in a position to recruit a suitable candidate.  We therefore encourage interested candidates to apply early.

Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS)

St George’s School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and visitors to share this commitment. This post will require a Full Enhanced, with List Checks, Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS).

St George’s is a unique and special place. Founded on a Christian ethos; dynamic and exciting to be part of; friendly, caring, and challenging in equal part, it is an excellent environment to receive what we consider to be an outstanding holistic education.

Our students and staff are loyal, proud, and purposeful, our motto, “Aim Higher”, challenging all of us to be the best we can be. We have history, tradition, and heritage, and a genuine determination to know and care for everyone, whether you are a day student or part of our diverse and inclusive boarding community.

Our School is a thriving, busy and heavily over-subscribed 11-18 all ability, co-educational school with 1398 pupils in 2023 including 424 in the academic Sixth Form and approximately 114 boarders. In 2023, over half of GCSE grades were at 9-7 and 92% of outcomes were graded 9-4. Our valued added score has been calculated by FFT to be +0.9 grades per entry. At A Level, our students achieve 41% A*/A and 68% A*-B. 95% of our students have accept university offers including several Oxbridge and Medicine places.

We believe that our staff are the best asset that our school has. We appreciate the skills, knowledge and understanding that staff bring to all aspects of school life. We are always encouraging staff to continue to develop their own skill base and experience, as well as provide opportunities for the sharing of that knowledge with others. We consider ourselves to be a supportive and friendly environment.

We hope that you will share our enthusiasm and drive to continue to make St George’s an exciting and caring place to work and learn.
