SECOND IN DEPARTMENT FOR MATHEMATICS

Required January 2025, with the possibility of an earlier start date

Full Time MPS/UPS + TLR2B

St. Michael's is a happy, friendly and highly successful Catholic Secondary School serving the community of South West Hertfordshire and is part of The Diocese of Westminster Academy Trust (DOWAT) one of the most successful Multi Academy Trusts in the country.

We are seeking to appoint a talented and ambitious Second in Department for Mathematics who can motivate and challenge students to achieve and support the Subject Leader in developing the Department. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher looking to become a Head of Department within 2 years.

Applications are welcome from experienced teachers and ECT's with the potential to teach Mathematics up to A Level.

The successful candidate will be committed, passionate and striving for excellence in their teaching and will have responsibility for a Key Stage.

St. Michael's is currently enjoying great success and is able to offer a range of extensive professional opportunities for individual development as well as offering programmes to support staff well-being.

All applications must be received by midday on Friday 8 November 2024.

Shortlisting will take place shortly thereafter and interviews will be held w/b Monday 11 November 2024.

We reserve the right to appoint a candidate before the closing date so early applications are encouraged.

The school is committed to the safeguarding, welfare and protection of children and young people and expects all of its employees to share this commitment. This post is exempt from the ‘Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974’ and the successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Please note that an online search of all applicants will be carried out as part of our legal duty to meet the safeguarding duties set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Any questions arising from this online search may be discussed at interview.

References will be requested prior to interview.

TEN REASONS TO APPLY TO ST MICHAEL’S

  • Our school has a semi-rural setting in its own grounds with excellent transport links to and from London and beyond, including Heathrow, Stanstead and Gatwick.

  • We have been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ grade by Ofsted at our last two inspections (in every category in our 2014 inspection) and an ‘Outstanding’ grade by the Diocese of Westminster in our last two Section 48 inspections, therefore we can justifiably see ourselves as being at the leading edge of what we do. We are constantly evaluating the school and constantly seek to improve.

  • We can provide accommodation for teachers who are joining us from outside our local area.

  • We are a Teaching School, which provides experienced guidance for colleagues at the start of their career and enhanced opportunities to develop careers.

  • We have a strong track record of excellent student behaviour as evidenced by our inspection reports.

  • St. Michael’s has an ethos of mutual support amongst the staff, who will provide guidance and reinforcement where necessary.

  • All new staff undergo a detailed induction programme which eases them into school life.

  • We are deeply committed to Continuing Professional Development and will support you in your chosen career direction.

  • We have high expectations of every member of our school community and will encourage you to have high expectations too.

  • We want you to help us be the best we can be.
