  • Lead on the mapping, sequencing, and delivery of the KS3 and KS4 curriculum, ensuring a broad and balanced programme that maximises student outcomes.
  • Support staff in planning lessons that reflect best practices, include a variety of teaching strategies, and are effectively differentiated for individual student needs.
  • Actively monitor and assess the progress of students, using data to inform future planning and ensure that all students are prepared for the demands of public examinations and coursework.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional learning within the department, leading CPL sessions and supporting the development of colleagues.
  • Engage students in extracurricular activities that inspire a love of English and enrich their learning experience beyond the classroom.
  • Play an active role in maintaining a disciplined, safe, and healthy learning environment in line with school policies.

Ideal Candidate:

  • A proven leader in an educational setting, with experience in curriculum development and a track record of improving student outcomes at KS3 and KS4.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English, particularly the AQA specifications for both Language (8700) and Literature (8702).
  • Ability to inspire and engage both students and colleagues, fostering a positive and collaborative learning environment.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills, with a clear commitment to raising standards and supporting the professional growth of the department.
  • Experience in leading professional development programmes and collaborating with a range of stakeholders including parents, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • A commitment to promoting equality, safeguarding, and the well-being of all students, ensuring an inclusive learning environment for all.
