Qualifications and Experience 

The SEN Secondary teacher must: 

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Bachelor Degree and a recognized teaching qualification  
  • Hold a recognized qualification for SEN  
  • Have recent and at least 5 years of relevant working experience in an accredited Secondary school 
  • Have a good standard of English, written and spoken  
  • Possess good knowledge of and experience in delivering the British National Curriculum  
  • Have strong academic skills to support teaching and learning across the curriculum 
  • Possess good knowledge of current special education topics and methodologies 
  • Have excellent communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work well under pressure 
  • Have experience working with children with a wide range of learning profiles 
  • Have experience in using data to inform instructional practices and provide feedback on student learning outcome 

Responsibilities 

The SEN Secondary teacher will:  

  • Facilitate effective, differentiated and student-centered teaching and learning  
  • Assess students’ abilities and create relevant teaching and learning plans 
  • Adapt and differentiate learning materials in accordance with students’ abilities and needs 
  • Regularly assess, record and reflect on students’ learning progress 
  • Provide challenging and achievable tasks to students to maximize learning outcome 
  • Develop and implement IEP goals  
  • Monitor students’ behavioural patterns and create Behavioural Intervention Plans as needed  
  • Collaborate with external professionals (such as psychologists and therapists) to create and implement holistic intervention plans  
  • Integrate educational technology in their teaching practice 
  • Participate in School Professional Development Programmes (such as First-Aid) 
  • Comply with reasonable requests from School Leadership Team to undertake work that is not specified in the job description
