We are seeking to appoint a SENCo to lead in supporting our children and young people who have special educational needs or disabilities to reach their full potential.

Our school continues to grow, and we strive to meet the needs of all of our pupils. The successful candidate would be part of the school’s leadership team ensuring that the school is working in line with the SEND code of practice, that we continue to be proactive and forward thinking in our approach and that we deploy resources as effectively as possible to improve outcomes for all.

At Malbank, the SENCo is supported by a deputy SENCo (line managed by the SENCo). The school has an internal inclusion provision, CONNECT which is led by a CONNECT manager and another full-time member of the team. This facility, along with a smaller facility called ‘The Lighthouse’ is also line managed by the SENCo. In addition, we have a large team of Learning Support Assistants. This committed team will be led by the successful candidate who will support with their continued professional development. The SENDCo will be supported by an Assistant Headteacher as a critical friend.

The SENCo at Malbank plays a crucial role in the school’s ‘Access Team’ who meet on a weekly basis to ensure children and young people at school have the support that they need to succeed. The Access team is made up of members of the pastoral teams, well-being teams, attendance team and the SEN team. The SENCo plays a pivotal role in ensuring there is a joined-up approach to support and any SEN needs are identified in a timely manner.

In line with the SEN code of practice we are seeking to appoint a SENCo who either has achieved the NASENCO qualification, is working towards the NASENCO or the NPQ (as of 1st Sept 2024). We would also welcome applications from teachers who have a desire to work in this important field of education and who are willing to embark on the NPQ – National award for SEN coordination.

The post will be paid at L6 - 10 and the successful candidate will be expected to teach, the number of periods across a 2-week timetable will be determined upon appointment. This is expected to be circa 15 periods.

How do I apply?

You will be required to write no more than two sides of A4 explaining what knowledge, skills and experiences you would bring to the post.

The deadline for receipt of applications is Wednesday 2nd October 2024 via the TES and interviews will take place in the following week.
