We are seeking to appoint a highly inspirational and motivational SENDCo who is committed and passionate about meeting the needs of our students so they can achieve their potential. You will need to have a strong awareness of the relevant SEN legislation that underpins SEN within schools. Working as part of a wider team, you will promote inclusion of all students and their families within the school community to ensure progress and meaningful access to the curriculum, facilities and enrichment activities. You will be expected to have a strong belief in the benefits of differentiation, raising pupil self-esteem, aspiration and attainment levels. You will play a pivotal role in tracking and improving progress measures of vulnerable students. You will need to have excellent communication skills, with experience of multi-agency working. You will work closely with our senior leadership team, supporting and liaising with staff, parents and external agencies to ensure identified student’s needs are met.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Studied to degree level (perhaps in a SEND related field, but not required);
  • Be awarded the NASENCO Award/currently studying or be willing to undertake the NPQ SEND;
  • Experience working with children with autism, ADHD and other special needs including having some knowledge of statutory processes including EHCNA requests, EHCP reviews and access arrangements and/or be willing to learn about these;
  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching strategies and approaches for supporting children with special needs;
  • Experience in developing and implementing individualised education programmes (IEPs);
  • Knowledge of relational behaviour management techniques;
  • A commitment to working collaboratively with parents, colleagues and other professionals involved in the child’s care;
  • Be methodical, organised and have excellent attention to detail;
  • Will have experience of teaching Key Stage 3 and 4 in their subject.

Emerson Park Academy is a mixed comprehensive school for pupils aged 11-16 years. 

Since September 1999, 192 pupils have been admitted annually, in response to parental demand.  The Academy can trace its roots back to 1943 when it began life as the only Grammar School in the country to be establised during World War Two.  It move to its present site in 1954 and became a comprehensive school in 1973. 

Emerson Park Academy has a full complement of committed and highly qualified specialist teaching and support staff.  The Academy is most fortunate to benefit from such a talented, hard-working workforce.  The Academy is set in spacious and attractive groundsd overlooking the Ingrebourne Valley.
