About this Role

Do you have a sound knowledge of Safeguarding legislation and processes required to support children? Are you able to challenge constructively when needed?  Can you support early intervention strategies to ensure learners who need early help are identified?  Are you passionate about training and supporting staff to be the best they can be to support children? Then this could be the role for you!

We are looking for a confident person to lead and influence others and be prepared to deal with difficult situations and people.

You also need to be organised and able to create clear systems and processes, as managing safeguarding concerns and tracking actions are an important part of your role.  

Essential qualities:

·       Knowledge of roles and responsibilities of local key safeguarding agencies, including social services and the police

·       Knowledge of legislation, government guidance and national frameworks for safeguarding children

Ideal Qualities:

·       Experience of working within a Safeguarding role in Education

Key purpose 

The Senior Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) will assist the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in all matters of safeguarding and child protection across the school. They may take part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings and contribute to the assessment of children. They will advise and support other members of staff on child welfare and child protection matters and may liaise with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police.

About Chiltern Hills Academy

Chiltern Hills Academy is a Church of England, co-educational secondary school in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. There are circa 1025 students on the school roll, approximately 100 of whom study in the Sixth Form. Chiltern Hills Academy converted to academy status in 2011 and is jointly sponsored by the Diocese of Oxford and Buckinghamshire Council.

We are situated in the market town of Chesham, Buckinghamshire in the Chiltern Hills, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Situated close to the M40 and the M25, Chesham is on the end of Metropolitan line of the London Underground and is 28 miles north-west of London. There is ample parking on-site. Renting here is cheaper than in central London and if you enjoy travelling, it takes about 40 minutes by car to Heathrow.

The Elgiva Theatre, Lowndes Park and an open-air heated swimming pool are just some of the many public amenities available in the town. Chesham is renowned for its community spirit and there are many recreational and community groups catering for the diverse and active population.
