Following the appointment of Andrew Murphy to the Headship of an HMC School, Stamford School now seeks to appoint a suitably qualified and ambitious replacement as Senior Deputy Head for the Senior School.

This strategic role sits as part of the Core Executive Team (CET) and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), who meet fortnightly. The successful candidate will play a key role in the strategic direction of the School and will also be responsible for the day to day running of the School, its staff, students, Boarding and the Co-curricular programme.

The Senior Deputy Head reports to the Principal / Head and will take the lead role in managing the Senior School; and is supported by the Assistant Head – Staff Development and the Assistant Head – Co-curricular.

The Senior Deputy Head will be pivotal in fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for our parents through a ‘front of house’ approach. The successful candidate will serve as the primary contact for engagement with parents, addressing feedback, providing support and guidance, and working collaboratively to resolve issues and improve the overall school experience.

This role has strategic oversight, through the Assistant Head (Co-curricular) for a full Co-curricular and enrichment programme which complements the formal education of students. The role will ensure the programme is sufficiently wide and varied so that students have numerous opportunities to develop new skills and new ideas.

This role will also be the strategic lead for the School’s Boarding provision and will support the Principal / Head with the development of the Boarding strategy.

The Senior Deputy Head will lead on the development of the conduct and the culture of the School, as our students aim to be the very best version of themselves.

Essential criteria

  • Unquestionable integrity and a highly competent communicator.
  • Degree level qualification and teaching qualification. Post graduate qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of teaching across the full 11-18 range.
  • Experience of Middle/Senior Leadership ideally within a Boarding school environment.
  • Experience of having had a direct impact on raising standards in multiple area of school life, even those outside of your direct remit.
  • Experience of contributing to policy formulation, implementation, evaluation and review.
  • Command academic respect and credibility through their duties and use their expertise to influence others, in relation to their role.
  • Management style that encourages participation and innovation and develops colleagues’ confidence and trust.
