Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Student Care Assistant (SCA) for a Year 8 student with high mobility needs. The candidate must hold experience of working with students with disability needs within an educational setting. The candidate must be empathetic as well as active and physically fit at meeting the day to day physical and academic support needs of this student. The candidate will also have the opportunity to work within the SEND department alongside the Special Educational Needs & Disabilities coordinator (SENDCo) and the teaching assistants as part of the academy SEND support team.  


The successful applicant would be expected to support the student in the classroom and make reasonable adjustments to remove any potential barriers to their learning, abiding by any risk assessments to the environment. The candidate will also be expected to plan in the moment and support or differentiate any classroom materials to enable our student to access areas within the curriculum independently. The candidate will be able to offer guidance to teaching staff on strategies to further support students with high mobility needs as well as carrying out small targeted groups of interventions that will involve the student by further supporting their academic and pastoral needs. They will work as part of a SEND team of Teaching Assistants to have an impact on the progress and achievement of students . Other key aspects would  be to support behaviour and promote an environment for learning that supports the progress of all students.


This Student Care Assistant role will see the successful candidate with some prior experience of working with SEND needs We would expect any candidate to have past or present  experience of working in a student care assistant role within either a mainstream or specialist school environment and this should be demonstrated through the application form and will be  assessed at the interview.


Candidates will be expected to: 

  • establish rapport and respectful, trusting relationships with students, their families and their cares
  • Encourage the development of self-confidence, sensitivity and respect for others through the understanding of individuals rights and responsibilities. 
  • Ensure positive inclusion of all students by fostering community links and developing the role of the academy as part of the total educational SEND provision. 
  • Provide a curriculum that is accessible and relevant to the needs of each individual student through a range of activities and opportunities which that learning is engaging.  
  • Encourage self-advocacy and independence. 
  • Generate attitudes of respect and understanding towards all irrespective of background. 
  • Give emphasis to the quality of relationships between all people in the academy.  


Overview

Our most recent Ofsted inspection in September 2023, saw us being judged strongly good in all areas. Our current SIAMS grading is outstanding. Both inspections evidence our excellent quality of education and commitment to ensure all students flourish both academically and pastorally. Recent outcomes at GCSE and A Level demonstrate  strong progress for all students with the Academy’s GCSE results this summer being the highest the Academy has ever achieved. However, we are much more than a successful, academically focused school.
