If you think life at John Colet School would suit you, then we are looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic teacher to join us from 2025. This post is suitable for an ECT or a more experienced teacher.

As a Business Studies teacher you will be in a supportive team who has a culture of sharing teaching strategies and resources. Our Business Studies department is well resourced with a wealth of powerpoints and resources available. There are two dedicated rooms and students have their own chromebooks.

The successful candidate will be able to teach throughout the age and ability range including AQA GCSE Business Studies, taught over 3 years and Post-16 the AQA A Level Business Studies, with the opportunity to teach Financial Studies, a personal finance course offered at level 3.

"I've always enjoyed Business Studies, as it is the perfect blend of maths, essay writing and gaining knowledge of the real world. For both A levels and GCSE, I won't lie - the subject can be trickier than people think, but it's been great having an enthusiastic teacher who is willing to give one on one support, especially when it comes to learning and exam technique. Group and individual work has been beneficial as there's always arguments to be discussed on case studies, plus there are always opportunities to get creative throughout the curriculum, including the Cadburys Competition we had in Year 10. It's fun bringing my theory knowledge into a practical perspective, like in Year 12 for the Young Enterprise Competition, when our team won the Technology award for our product in our region. I have no regrets choosing this subject, not just because of the learning but also the memories made along the way." LP student in Year 13.

From Challenge Partners peer review March 2024:

  • ‘Students describe the school as ‘welcoming’, strongly echoed by new staff and students who quickly felt ‘fully part of the community.'
  • ‘Staff find that induction and whole school professional development programmes directly inform practice that support both staff and students. One teacher explained how ‘literacy training has improved how I teach languages to students with lower reading ages.’ One member of staff stated that since joining JCS they have ‘become a better teacher.’
  • New staff compare JCS to their previous schools and state that facilities at the school are excellent, ‘Stuff works!’
  • They describe leaders as approachable with strong communication and a focus on well-being. As a result, new staff feel settled and ready to work quickly, with one concluding, ‘My life is better since joining John Colet.’
  • Teachers drive the ethos for students to thrive through their relationships, support and how they advocate for student needs. A wide range of students feel that their teachers are the most important aspect of the school. As a result, students self-regulate whilst working independently, eager to complete projects and extended activities.

Closing date: 9am, Monday 14 October 2024.

Interviews: Thursday 17 October 2024.

We have over 1000 students on roll and a talented, skilful staff who benefit from excellent support from the governing body and school leaders. CPD is central to our belief that staff should be constantly nurtured to be the best they can be. Our finances are in an excellent position.

Our facilities are excellent and expanding. These include a lecture theatre, 3G pitch, MUGA and recent additions of a dance studio and gym. These have allowed us to run staff well-being classes in yoga and fitness. A new suite of classrooms will be opening this year. Students are also provided with a wide range of enrichment opportunities and our curriculum ensures that the arts are well represented with Music, Drama and Art embedded in our offer.

I was appointed Head in September of 2023 and what attracted me most to the school was the sense of community, the kindness and respect shown by adults and young people to each other and the ambition to give our young people a fully-rounded, holistic education. Every adult wants every child to thrive. John Colet is a very caring and happy place and I would encourage you to come and experience for yourself our welcoming, positive learning culture.

We look forward to hearing from you.
