Job overview
I am delighted that you have expressed an interest in working at St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy.
We are seeking to appoint a skilled and ambitious Teacher of Drama to develop the curriculum across each Key Stage both within lessons and through extracurricular sessions. We achieve good outcomes within Drama at KS4. Drama is part of our English Learning Area
We are looking for:
• An excellent teacher of Drama who is passionate about the subject, imparting this through dynamic, effective teaching
• A visionary subject leader who, along with a wider team can grow the provision of the arts within the Academy
• An aspiring leader with a proven track record of developing a subject and enabling student success
To be successful, you will be creative, driven and resourceful. You must be able to work independently as well as alongside a team of excellent practitioners to plan, rehearse and deliver performances which integrate all of the art forms; dance, music, drama along with visual art.
As an Academy, we seek to embrace new methodologies whilst maintaining a balance with traditional practice, to bring about examination success. All students at Key Stage 3 and 4 have a 1:1 mobile device; this is an example of our commitment to use modern technology to maximise learning. Recent development of the site has enhanced the resources available to staff and students, which includes an Immersive Classroom space.
If you were to be successful in your application, you would be joining an Academy which strives for excellence. We benefit from purpose-built accommodation with excellent facilities.
All in all, it is a wonderful place to work, learn and worship. Our vision is ‘Lord Direct us to Live Life to the Full’, rooted in John 10:10. Whilst Learning, we are Inspired and develop our Values through Experiences as each member flourishes. We aim to raise aspirations, realise potential and develop well-rounded successful teachers and young people.
The closing date for applications is 9am on Monday 28th October 2024.
Please submit the Teaching Staff application form, which can be downloaded from the Academy website, along with a letter of application of not more than two A4 sides detailing how your experiences to date qualify you for the role.
You are warmly invited to visit the Academy to discuss this further, or to arrange a telephone conversation regarding the post.
Please send all queries and completed applications via Mrs Nightingale, The PA to the Principal at knightingale@saintwilfrids.com.
I look forward to receiving your application.
Yours faithfully,

ABOUT ST WILFRID'S C OF E ACADEMY
St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy provides a faith-led education for 11 to 18 year olds serving the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen and parts of Pennine Lancashire. We seek to provide an excellent education based upon a strong Christian foundation, as we develop all who work, learn and serve in our community. We benefit from purpose-built accommodation with excellent facilities. All in all, it is a wonderful place to work and learn. Visitors to St Wilfrid’s comment on the calm and purposeful environment, the friendly nature of our students and the welcoming nature of our staff.
We have a reputation for high academic standards. As a comprehensive school, we pride ourselves on providing teaching and learning which engages all students. The recent SIAMS inspector stated:
“Almost everyone describes the academy as being ‘one big family’ where all care for and help one another. This is understood to be the outworking of Christian values and teachings which underpin excellent behaviour and relationships. Students recognise in teachers a commitment to serve which for many is an aspect of their Christian faith. This prompts them to strive to provide the best and most supportive opportunities for all students. The result is exemplary academic and pastoral support which enables students to make good progress, attain excellent results and develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally (SMSC 2016).”
MISSION STATEMENT
“St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy sees education as an integral part of the mission of the Church to proclaim God as Creator, Christ as Redeemer and the Holy Spirit as Inspirer of all that is good in human living. The main purpose of the school is to provide an excellent education, both academic and social, in a Christian context, to enable its students to grow up to take their full part as citizens of this world and the next.”
