We are seeking an experienced English teacher who is proactive, passionate and enthusiastic to join our English Department to cover a maternity leave. Our English Department is a very experienced, supportive and collaborative department, who will welcome the individual as part of team. Our curriculum is delivered by booklets; and there are very clear expectations, systems and processes in the department which will ensure the successful candidate is well supported with planning and classroom delivery.

 

We are looking for someone who:

·       Can build strong relationships with students.

·       Can deliver excellent lessons in English up to GCSE.

·       Is committed to raising standards

·       Can demonstrate excellent planning and organisational skills

·       Can enthuse and motivate all students

·       Has incredibly high expectations

·       Is an excellent team player

·       Believes that all students are capable of success.

Newton Abbot College is a mixed 11 –19 Academy with over 1000 students on roll with a large and diverse Sixth Form. Our recent full section 5 Ofsted inspection in April 2019 described us as, "a  harmonious school where pupils are thriving" and went on to note that, "pupils are respectful of each other and adults.  Their behaviour is consistently of a high standard."  

The College has undergone rapid change including significant improvement to examination results at Key Stages 4 and 5; levels of progress over the last few years have been outstanding and are predicted to improve further over the coming years. Newton Abbot College was originally established in 1904 as the Newton Abbot town Grammar School, becoming Knowles Hill School in 1975 with the introduction of the comprehensive system.  In 2008, the school became Newton Abbot College.  Along with a new identity and uniform came a strong ethos of the highest expectations for student learning and progress.  In 2011 we gained Academy status.  Today, the College offers 11-19 year old students a challenging curriculum in a calm, purposeful, well-ordered community.

We are known for our high standards of teaching and our focus on student achievement.  At the heart of everything we do is the individual who learns here. Our focus is on giving them a complete learning experience so that they leave us as happy, confident, knowledgeable young people.  For that to happen, our teachers must stimulate and challenge them in the classroom and beyond.  We treat all our students as individuals.  We set targets and track progress so that no student can become invisible.  We are recognised leaders in this practice.  We endeavour to give our students the skills they need to become independent lifelong learners.
