Teacher of English (starting in Aug 2025) - Island School

We hope to appoint a knowledgeable, inspiring and innovative English teacher to start in August 2025 at our recently redeveloped 8-storey campus back at Borrett Road. Responsibilities will be tailored to match the experience and interests of the successful candidates.

Island School is a highly successful IB school located in the heart of Hong Kong. 1200 students aged 11 to 18 study an innovative and exciting curriculum combining our self-designed courses, the MYP, IGCSE, IBDP and IBDP programs..

A full-time teacher of English Language and Literature is required to teach in English and EAL faculties. The successful candidate may be expected to teach a range of courses including IB MYP, IGCSE First Language Second Language English, IGCSE World Literature and IBDP English A and English B with the possibility of supervising students studying self-taught IBDP Languages.

The English department faculty enjoys a positive and collaborative working environment with excellent examination results. The successful candidate would be expected to make a meaningful contribution to this through effective collaboration with colleagues within the departments and across the whole school. 

We operate a 1 to 1 laptop program throughout the school and all teachers should be committed to making the most of these resources in the teaching of their subjects. Online learning, blended learning, and flipped learning styles are also promoted throughout the school and teachers are expected to promote these practices.

The co-curricular program is an important part of Island school life and all teachers are involved in some activities that are offered to students outside lesson time. All full-time teachers are tutors to a group of students who they see daily within the house structure and to whom they deliver a programme of lessons to support developing students’ social, emotional and cognitive development.

The successful candidate should have:

• A relevant degree and postgraduate teaching qualification
• Knowledge and understanding of the needs of second language learners
• A familiarity with IB MYP, GCSE and IB DP curriculum design processes and teaching methodologies
• The desire to embrace faculty-wide professional development models and collaborative practice
• The ability to realise the potential of students with a range of learning needs
• Provide intervention strategies to ensure every student learns
• A proven ability to integrate flipped, blended and other pedagogies into teaching & learning
• A commitment to the extra-curricular life of the school
• A commitment to pastoral care within the school
