Job overview
The Geography department at CCF is committed to producing well-rounded students who leave school with an appreciation of their local area, an understanding of contrasting locations and a curiosity to explore the future. One way we ensure this is by providing opportunities to enhance learning outside the classroom through fieldwork. Our students fortunately come from a myriad of backgrounds and all enjoy learning about each other's varied perspectives. We encourage exploration and comparison of our lives and experiences to help to understand and explain wider, global, more abstract processes.
The Geography Department runs the popular 'Climate Council'. The Climate Council was founded by students who were keen to make changes to some of the school’s practices in order to help CCF become an official Eco School. The members of the club use this time to come up with projects to reduce our carbon footprint and increase our sustainability as individuals but also as a community. We work with members of the sixth form, governors and local council to create meaningful and long-lasting change such as introducing recycling bins, producing metal water bottles and plans to create a nature garden. All of the projects are imagined, planned and executed by the students with the support of staff when needed. This council helps students to better understand our relationship with the environment and how we can protect our Earth. By exploring these big ideas in a supportive group, students can grow in confidence and develop excellent skills to use for their futures.
At Christ’s College Finchley we value our staff by providing a positive school climate. Our aim is to ensure a balanced, secure and healthy workplace where our teaching and support staff can flourish. We do this because we know that our staff are central to the success of our pupils.
Your passion for education will be evident along with essential qualities such as the ability to communicate effectively, the ability to listen and the ability to collaborate and work with others. You will have that unique skill of monitoring and inspiring our young people and in return we will provide you with every opportunity for a rewarding career.
Christ’s College Finchley has a high-performing workforce and staff talent which is evident by the low levels of staff absences and turnover. Our staff wellbeing approach is a priority and, along with our focus on promoting from within, is central to our staff retention strategy. We place great emphasis on reviewing individual workloads and time pressures to ensure there are flexible work routines; workplace support and integration; individual and team recognition; and positive working relationships to maintain and improve the mental and physical wellbeing of our staff.
In the same way that we have high expectations of our pupils, we have high expectations of our staff but the benefits and rewards are multitudinous, from job satisfaction and career development to professional and lifestyle benefits.

Values and vision
Christ’s College Finchley aims to make pupils feel good about themselves. As a result, the children are happy and there has been good retention of school staff over the decades. Pupils are expected to behave well, so bullying and aggression are rare.
Since 1906, the secondary school’s motto has been “Usque Proficiens”, meaning “advance all the way”. The school is proud that visitors consistently comment on the friendly and happy atmosphere, and that prospective teachers often remark that they feel "at home" within minutes of their arrival.
