Great Marlow School is a successful, highly regarded, and popular school. We are looking for a teacher of music to work with the current Head of Department to further develop this department. The position is available to those who are new to the profession or have experience. Although the position would ideally be full time – the school will consider requests for part time employment. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and motivated teacher to join this successful and hardworking department.

  • At Key Stage 3: Music is studied by all students (230 students in each year group).
  • At Key Stage 4: GCSE Music is an option for students – numbers opting for this course have risen in recent years.
  • At Key Stage 5: A level Music is offered to both internal students and those who may decide to join the Sixth Form at Great Marlow from other schools.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to command respect in the classroom and inspire all students to realise their potential. Candidates should be confident in using effective strategies to motivate ALL learner groups and in promoting the enjoyment of the subject across all year groups.

The Music Department is involved in a number of events across the school: Christmas Concert, Carol Service, Summer Concert, House Music, Jazz Evening and Primary School outreach. An increasing proportion of students are accessing additional music lessons in school and the department has a wide range of extra-curricular provision including jazz band, wind band, chamber choir, and rock/ pop band.

Great Marlow School is a large co-educational secondary school located in the town of Marlow, Buckinghamshire. The school has around 1,300 students aged 11-19, with over 200 attending the sixth form.

Founded in 1961, the school converted to academy status in 2011 and in the last six years has invested £9 million in developing the school facilities including a state of the art sports centre, sixth form centre and performing arts accomodation. The Redgrave Sports Centre was named after former pupil and Olympic rower Sir Steve Redgrave, he opened in the centre in May 2013.  The school and the sports centre are a 'hub' of the local community and host events and activities throughout the evenings, weekends and school holidays.
