We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, optimistic and talented practitioner to join our successful Musical Theatre team for the maternity cover, which we anticipate will be for at least 12 months. Results are excellent with at least 96% of KS4 students achieving the top grades (Dist/Dist*) in Musical Theatre last year. Similarly, 93% of students in Year 13 achieved at least Distinction, Distinction, Distinction (or higher) for their BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre). The department is experienced and supportive of teachers and students alike. We are ambitious for our students and work collaboratively to ensure all learners are passionate about the subject and achieve well. The Musical Theatre Department benefits from dedicated teaching studios and a spacious work area, as well as the use of BOA Theatre and external venues for annual productions.


Key Stage 4 students are entered for the BTEC Level 2 TECH Award in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre). Post-16 students in Year 12 and Year 13 follow the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Practice. Schemes of learning for both courses are completely bespoke and fully resourced with our own high-quality lessons and formative assessments, taking full account of teacher workload.


The Academy is looking for someone who has:

  • Qualified teacher status and a degree.
  • A strong track record as an exceptional Teacher of Dance or the ability to demonstrate you are developing excellent practice (if an ECT).
  • A passion for Dance which is evident in day-to-day classroom practice
  • An in-depth knowledge of relevant assessment / examination content and the ways in which it is commonly assessed.
  • A thoughtful approach and the ability to reflect on the effectiveness of teaching and make impactful improvements.
  • The ability to inspire high achievement in young people from all backgrounds.
  • The ability to work closely with others as part of a small team.
  • Reliability and strong personal organisation and time-management skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • The ability to guide students’ academic, personal, and professional development as a form tutor.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt positively in the face of change.
  • An excellent record of attendance and punctuality.

BOA Creative, Digital and Performing Arts Academy is a state-funded, high-performing 14 to 19 academy specialising in creative, digital and performing arts. The brand-new landmark building, located at the hub of the digital and creative industries in the West Midlands, opened September 2011. It has superb facilities for academic, vocational and extra-curricular activities. BOA is 100% selective, based on aptitude, and as a result, it is unique in its admissions criteria.

Whilst students have talent in their chosen pathway subjects, there is a full range of academic ability. Alongside their vocational courses, students in Year 10 and 11 study an additional eight GCSE’s including English, Maths and Science. In Year 12 and 13 students can opt to study one or two additional A Levels.
