Salary:

Responsibilities:

The Teacher of Physical Education will: 

  • Report to the Head of Physical Education who will be his / her Line Manager and who will conduct his / her Performance Management 
  • Plan, develop, implement and review excellent Schemes of Work relating to the PE and swimming curriculum 
  • Be familiar with the pedagogy of the active learning Early Years programme and the inclusion of PE within that provision 
  • Hold a full teaching timetable for PE, including Swimming, equivalent to that of a class teacher 
  • Support students in their preparations for individual and team events and competitions 
  • Support school teams and develop school participation in competitions and events 
  • Develop a team spirit across all sports 
  • Help to develop and promote opportunities for all school teams and individuals 
  • Represent the views of the PE department at School meetings and other meetings as required 
  • Be directly involvement in the Performance Management of assigned Visiting coaches 
  • Liaise as frequently as possible with Visiting coaches and help to keep track of School pupil development in these areas 
  • Plan and implement opportunities for children to lead healthy active lifestyles 
  • Work to maintain a professional, healthy and conflict-free atmosphere within the department/school


Professional Expectations:

The Teacher of Physical Education will: 

  • Be an accomplished sports person in his or her own right 
  • Have a minimum of three years of experience 
  • Be passionate about the development of young people and fostering a love of PE, including swimming, and a healthy lifestyle in all members of the school community 
  • Be experienced in developing a broad, rich and engaging curriculum 
  • Have a full understanding of the English National Curriculum with regard to PE objectives and expectations and have the ability to interpret these creatively 
  • Have a full understanding of the Swim England Learn to Swim Pathway 
  • Have an understanding or experience of competitive swimming 
  • Be able to nurture and stretch the most able whilst also making PE accessible and enjoyable for all 
  • Be an exemplary teacher in respect of planning, preparation of the learning environment, lesson delivery, including EAL strategies and differentiation, assessment, marking and reporting 
  • Support the development of effective systems for planning, assessment and record keeping across the PE department 
  • Bring an innovative approach, passion and a love of physical education to all students across the school 
  • Will have a track record of exceptional pastoral care and be able to prioritise the happiness and wellbeing of all students 
  • Manage his / her own time effectively - particularly in relation to balancing the demands made by teaching, subject management and involvement in school development 
  • Prove to be a reflective practitioner 
  • Demonstrate an exemplary work ethic 
  • Have excellent communication skills with all constituencies within the school 
  • Enjoy working as part of a talented and experienced team


Child Safeguarding:

Shrewsbury International School is committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be required to: 

  • Attend regular in-house child protection and safeguarding programmes and sign a Code of Conduct 
  • Play a leading role in promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all students in the school 
  • Report to the Designated or Deputy Safeguarding Lead any concerns they have for the welfare of a student 
  • Report to the Designated or Deputy Safeguarding Lead any unsafe practices witnessed within the school as outlined in The School’s Speak Out Policy 
  • Keep professional relationships with students where personal boundaries are respected and maintained


Requirements: 

  • International Child Protection Certificate (ICPC) prior to the start of contract 
  • Formal proof of identity with photo ID (Original Driving License / Passport) 
  • 3 signed, confidential references (one of which will be from the candidate’s current headteacher) before the start of contract 
  • Verification of original qualifications
