We are seeking a well-qualified and talented Teacher of Portuguese, either as a mother tongue or Portuguese as a Second Language (PSL), to join the team in August 2025.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspire and Engage: Build trust and confidence with students, motivating them to engage actively in learning Portuguese as a mother tongue or second language.
  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver lessons aligned with GCSE, A-Level, or IBDP curricula, focusing on strong language skills and communication development.
  • Personalized Learning: Differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs, supporting both native speakers and second language learners.
  • Classroom Management: Create a positive, disciplined, and safe learning environment that fosters respect and promotes effective learning.
  • Technology Integration: Use modern technology and interactive tools to enhance the learning experience and language acquisition.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Monitor progress with formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback to help students meet academic goals.
  • Pastoral Care: Address students' personal and academic needs by collaborating with parents, colleagues, and support staff when necessary.
  • School Development: Contribute to school improvement plans, aligning teaching strategies with school goals and promoting learning priorities.
  • Extracurricular Involvement: Engage students in extracurricular activities, such as language clubs or cultural exchanges, to deepen their understanding.
  • Continuous Professional Development: Stay updated with trends in language teaching by engaging in professional development and improving teaching practices.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A relevant degree in Portuguese Language, Education, or a related field, along with a teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • Experience teaching Portuguese as a mother tongue or as a Second Language at the secondary level with familiarity with GCSE, A-Level, or IBDP curricula.
  • Proven ability to inspire and engage students, fostering a stimulating learning environment.
  • Strong classroom management skills, maintaining a safe and productive learning atmosphere.
  • Proficiency in using modern technology to enhance language learning.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated with best practices.
  • A proactive approach to addressing students' academic and personal challenges.
  • Fluency in Portuguese, with the ability to teach both native speakers and second-language learners.
  • A collaborative mindset and active contribution to school improvement and extracurricular activities.
